Is there a difference between cleaning teeth with braces fitted than as if they were not? The answer is no not really, however this does not mean there will not be a difference in what you feel at the time. You may feel uncomfortable and hold back from the normal scrub technique you use, this is not necessary as teeth fitted with braces are just as strong as they were before the fitting.

Overtime it is easy to forget you have braces. The mouth is a body orifice that takes some serious flak throughout the day. Most of the time the mouth is filled with foods that not only cause the mouth to smell like garlic, onions, curry, alcohol or fag smoke; they are serous contributors for staining the teeth also.

Foods which are bad for the teeth are those of high sugar content. Fruit is by far the healthier option if sweetness you crave. What do they say "An apple a day keeps the dentist a way" or was it doctor? Nonetheless, either way it is sound advice. The mouth is not the healthiest and hygienic of places due to stale food stuck between the teeth so therefore regular brushing is vital along with flossing to help loosen any stubborn food particles. If your forthcoming dental appointment includes having a brace fitted then you will be glad to know that the way you normally clean your teeth will not really alter. In fact it is you and your method that changes.

Once dental braces are fitted and you're comfortable with your new look then take time out to accustom yourself with them. Being wired up should cause no problems. If at any time you do suffer discomfort tell the dentist so he/she can make alterations and adjust. Prepare to feel a slight difference because it's not every day your teeth are geared up with metal scaffolding if you like. Plaque is the main cause for build up of germs and bacteria. Plaque is a sticky layer of harmful bacteria - food - saliva and debris - which if permitted will mass and attack the teeth and gums causing cavities and gum disease or toothache.
Fortunately we have dentists for treating our dental problems today instead of relying upon the piece of string and door knob for tooth extraction. Gum disorders can and do cause toothache and mouth ulcers. Regular brushing and flossing after you have eaten is best for preventing plaque build up - tooth decay and gum disease. Nevertheless, knowing and doing is another thing...to keep those pearly whites white you have to do. If you fear the dentist and looking for ways to avoid regular visits then make sure to attend the requested 6 months check up, therefore only two visits a year.
Mouthwash refreshes the mouth. Swirl mouthwash round the mouth swishing in and out of molars, this will leave your tongue feeling fresh too. Remember, mouthwash does not clean incisors or wisdom teeth; it is the good old faithful tube of toothpaste and brush you need for doing the trick.
No matter how light or less the meal you eat it is essential to brush teeth 5 minutes later.
Tips in braces cleaning:

Using an angled toothbrush will make cleaning easier as you will be able to reach the corners you can't normally get to with an ordinary toothbrush. If you do not have an angled toothbrush worry not because all you need to do is hold your existing toothbrush at a forty-five-degree angle. This effectively works by loosening food particles from in between the gaps of the gum and the wires. Braces are quite sturdy and firm so no need for the delicate approach as this will not clean the teeth thoroughly.

Clean the upper teeth's outside part; cleaning 2/3 teeth at a time in circular motion. Circular movement ensures you are not missing anything. Follow through to other teeth. Use the same technique for cleaning the inside part of the teeth. Teeth used for masticating leave till last. Rinse the mouth thoroughly. Several rinses will get rid of all toothpaste deposits. You will be surprised how quick you master a comfortable way for cleaning teeth fitted with a brace. With the help of a mirror you can check for areas which need further cleaning.

Brace cleaning must include dental flossing to get at the difficult spaces between the teeth which can be awkward to reach with a toothbrush. Floss sticks are quite popular more so than that of the regular string-type floss because of convenience, hence not opening the mouth as wide. Mouthwash is great as a type of sterilization method. Use fluoride toothpaste preferably one suggested by your dentist or one with the seal of approval by a reputable dental association. Do not use whitening toothpaste. When cleaning your teeth don't forget to gently brush your tongue, gums and the roof of your mouth. If this is not done then you have only cleaned the surface so as to speak.

Take care brushing around dental braces. Start from the top and brush down. Although strong devices when eating...heavy handling of a toothbrush is unadvisable as bending or snapping wires and brackets can occur.

Floss each evening with waxed floss using traditional technique. Floss between teeth and between the wire and braces. Never rush and take your time to avoid snagging the floss. Hard to believe but true that tugging floss can loosen, bend or break the braces. Remove stubborn floss by rinsing the mouth thoroughly, as shredded floss left behind can cause bacteria. Bacterium in the mouth is most unhealthy indeed.
If your toothbrush still looks as good as new after 3 months - it is still best to replace it because as the saying goes 'never judge the book by the cover."Dental braces are a sort of orthodontic treatment, or treatment that corrects abnormalities of the teeth as well as other parts i.e. the jaws. Dental braces are devices fitted onto the teeth that pull individual teeth or jaws in a desired direction. More regular reason for dental braces is to straighten teeth that have grown crooked and/or align the upper and lower jaws. The state of the teeth and gums can be bettered when teeth and jaws are realigned making cleaning possible. If your teeth are in need of straightening or other do not let embarrassment hold you back from having a brace fitted.
It is a dentist or orthodontist who will fit dental braces. You will have a dental examination and X-rays done so plaster moulds of your teeth can be made. If your dentist believes a dental brace is the best option for treating your problem treatment can commence. Treatment may be delayed if permanent or adult teeth are not fully grown. In some cases of too many teeth they must be pulled before treatment starts. A lot of the information here can be off putting, however it is only a brief explanation to help you understand what to expect. Devices themselves are made according to the moulds taken and then individual brackets are fitted to each tooth. Small wires, and sometimes elastics hook between the brackets to keep them all in line. If after a fitting and you feel major discomfort or pain report back to your dentist or orthodontist for adjustments to be made. Wearing a brace is no big issue than that of the issue of having to cover your mouth due to bad decaying teeth your embarrassed about.

Happiness shows in a smile. When the braces are removed it will prove you to be one happy person because you will never stop smiling.
