Why are many of the important things in our lives nearly always taken for granted. I talk of water here, you know the stuff we wash our cars and hair with, swim and bathe in, and coco the clown throws buckets of it over fellow funny men. If we were to get our priorities into perspective about the importance of water, because without it you would be dead in a week, would we continue to waste it as we do? These issues need to be taken into account when the next water hose ban is imposed. When in drought times it is up to us to comply with water rationing.
How much do you know about the "drinking" water with which you quench your thirst? And would you still wet your whistle if you knew the truth. Did you know that over 75% of US citizens are chronically dehydrated and that for 37% of them the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is easily confused for hunger pains? Drinking one glass of water can alienate any hunger pangs. This is a good thing for the dieter to know. Lack of water is the primary cause of daytime fatigue and that even "mild" dehydration slows down metabolism by as much as 3%, even a 2% drop in usual body water levels can urge blurry short term memory. (What was that I said?)
Dehydration can in some cases cause dry skin and headaches. People tend to wait until they are thirsty before taking fluids but if they knew that thirst tails behind the body's need for water, and as such thirst does not sufficiently indicate the body`s hydration needs. "How much is considered safe to drink," "Is my tap water safe to drink," these are two regular questions.
Because of much confusion we are without answers to particular queries when we have water suppliers telling us one thing and others telling us different just to make a sale for their miracle bottled water, so determining what is deemed the ideal quantity and quality of the water that is right for you can be difficult, because of this. Should we accept tap water and be complacent with it, or go for the vendors wares. There is a perception among many people that bottled water is somehow healthier or purer than water from their tap. This is simply an illusion of marketing - stated scientific research. Over a period of 4 years National Resources Defense Council released in 1999, found that one-fifth of the sampled bottled waters contained known neurotoxins and carcinogens such as styrene, toluene and xylene. Another finding was, out of 103 brands of bottled water, one-third contained traces of arsenic and E. coli. This means that out of a sample of 1,000 bottles sold in America. At least 300 would have some level of chemical contamination. Well thank you very much to them researchers for frightening the life out of us? In saying that, what we would do without research, without it we couldn`t correct the things in life we take for granted (salesman spiel) that maybe be bad for us.
Taking into account that 97% of the world's water is salty or otherwise undrinkable, 2% is saved in glaciers and ice caps leaving only 1% for humanity's needs and that quantity is becoming a serious issue with over 500,000 tons of pollutants pouring into the lakes ponds and rivers in America annually. I myself live in an area close to the ICI chemical plant (within a mile) which has been voted in England as the 3rd most dangerous hotspot to be living. The same company has been fined on several occasions for ridding toxic waste. Is it any wonder why the population of my home town is filled with worried asthmatics?
Being concerned about water, its properties and its quality should be every family's top priority. What you take out of your body is just as important for your health as what you put into it. With today's chemical laden food production and over indulgent lifestyles, our bodies are likely saturated with toxins - ingested from what we eat and drink. Mounting toxins are dangerous and prevalent agents capable of meddling with physiologic functions of all human systems.
Facts show that drinking 8-10 glasses of water daily could significantly ease back and joint pain and the fewer amount of 5 glasses decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus slashing the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to suffer from bladder cancer. Although we fish and swim in it, - sea water has other fabulous qualities (therapeutic use.) Its application to the body, warmed and usually combined with massage, is referred to as Thalassotherapy.
