What is tinnitus; it is a condition that affects the ears. Instead of what people who suffer from the condition would like to hear like music or soft sentiments - actually hear upsetting sounds like ringing, buzzing, crackling, or hissing sounds coming from inside one or both ears. Tinnitus not only affects the patient ear-wise but mentally too as it is a stressful ailment to have to put up with. Tinnitus is a result of the brain attempting to "rewire" itself when the ear has become damaged, resulting in a ringing noise. Patients diagnosed with having tinnitus can experience a wide range of noise creating a minor annoyance to debilitating pain depending on severity of their tinnitus. In our everyday lives we hear noise which includes traffic horns, bells of an ice cream van and sounds of water running etc; however these we hear by our own choice, unlike tinnitus sounds that comes from within the actual ear rather than from the outside environment.
Advancing age is generally accompanied by a certain amount of hearing nerve impairment, and consequently tinnitus. In today`s society, many tinnitus cases determined derived from over exposure to loud noises, for instance construction machinery and other types of engine motors and more. Loud noise overtime can damage a person`s hearing.
It`s hard to understand how we have medication to make us better from one condition only to have that specific medication contradict another condition actually causing other health problems. Aspirin and other diseases of the inner ear Meniere`s syndrome can cause tinnitus. Not common ,in fact very rare but an issue you need to be aware of is that tinnitus can be a symptom of the more serious condition aneurysm and alarmingly a brain tumor (acoustic tumor.) Now this is no time to panic when you read this and have ringing in your ears, because as pointed out this very rarely happens.

Tinnitus is a condition that anyone can suffer from. But we relate the condition more towards people as they grow old. People who are prone to hardening of the arteries are more prone to suffering from tinnitus. Tinnitus is not a life threatening concern but can destroy the hearing organs in a way you lose the inability to hear properly - but not to a level of deafness. Tinnitus may cause a depression.
