Is having teen sex the in thing to do, well judging by statistics and talking to youngsters alike it looks like it is. Unfortunately following a sex craze has left kids "yes kids "denied of their younger years (childhood.) If you`re adamant and believe you are ready for sex then at least make an effort to find out all there is to know about keeping yourself safe from risk of STDs or an unwanted pregnancy. Yes it happens all the time and you`re not exempt from it happening to you. Even grownups just like mom and dad make mistakes and you may well be the result of one.
A teen sex encounter which resulted in pregnancy sees the teen mum denied of future prospects. (Not the case in all cases.) When we have a baby on the scene the chance of completing high school or marrying is less likely to happen. Research found children of teen parents have poor health and their cognitive development is slower. It is also frightening the amount of deaths caused by pregnancy complications in young girls who give birth less than 15 years of age. Teens are more likely in today`s society to be underfed and suffer premature or prolonged labour. In the first 3 months into the pregnancy; 7 out of 10 pregnant girls do not visit their GP when at its most critical. It is common in teen moms to deliver early babies. Premature births are regular. Underweight infants may suffer from underdeveloped organs (brain, lungs, heart.) Being weak the baby may struggle to maintain body temperature and blood sugar levels.
If you`re expecting a baby and would like him/her or them to be "healthy" then get prenatal care. Put a well balanced diet sheet together. Eating healthy nutritious foods will certainly help keep baby safe in the womb. If you smoke, quit now. Also avoid alcohol and taking drugs unless prescribed by your doctor.
Aside from pregnancy we have the issue of STDs that can happen from having unprotected sex. A sexually transmitted disease can be passed from person to person through the mouth, anus, or vagina. Gonorrhea is rampant known to infect about 600,000 US citizens every year. Gonorrhea is sometimes called "the clap." Bacterium called Neisseria is the cause of Gonorrhea which rapidly spreads. Gonorrhea can affect both man and woman. You are most likely to catch Gonorrhea through having unprotected sex. Gonorrhea symptoms can affect the throat displaying sores inside the mouth, fever and aches. If the vagina (genitals) is infected it causes itch. The cervix may have symptoms of irritation and there is a possibility of bleeding and a discharge, with a burning feeling when urinating. Treatment for Gonorrhea is pretty straight forward i.e. antibiotics. Just like it was pretty straight forward in catching it, - so you must remember this. Why would you want to remember this you may well ask? Well you would be surprised how many times this infection is treated over and over for the same person.
Safe sex means avoiding casual sex, and to wear a male or female condom. Syphilis is another recognized STD caused by bacterium called (Treponema Pallidum) the infection can spread from one human to another through direct contact with syphilis sores. Sores primarily develop on the outer genitals, vagina, anus, or in the rectum, however can show on the lips and inside the mouth.
Back to Pregnancy
Every year more than 50,000 girls under the age of 18 fall pregnant, putting Britain at the top of the teenage pregnancy table in Western Europe. Most teenage girls think getting pregnant is something that only happens to their friends, well it don`t. If you're worried because your period is late then it doesn`t necessarily mean your pregnant, however if you have been having unprotected sex then is most likely that you are. If you feel sick or vomit most of the day and not just in the mornings, and have sore breasts then these are a couple of symptoms of pregnancy. Perform a home pregnancy test or better still have your GP do the testing? A home pregnancy test should be done once the period is late because it works by detecting pregnancy hormones in urine. If a test shows up as negative and the period still doesn't come do another test, because the first test may have been taken too soon. In saying that this does not happen often because these new pregnancy testers' are able to give a diagnosis after only a couple of days of a missed period
If you`ve decided to visit your doctor then it is a wise decision because of your age, or for any woman regardless of age.
For your appointment you may be asked to bring a sample of urine and the date of your last period. Depending on age or the individual or circumstance, you might be offered support and information on keeping the baby, abortion and adoption.
Hey girls we all make mistakes and if you are reading this it`s not the end of the world. Nevertheless it is not a good situation or condition to be in, if this is not what you wanted. The person most girls tend to shy away from is their mother, and why because she is the most important person that needs to be told. She will be your rock all though out your pregnancy. What can possibly be worse than going through pregnancy alone because you were scared of raised voices, or to have mum at your side after the yelling dies down? I know what I would rather have.
Talk to a counselor at one of the Brook Advisory Centers or the British Pregnancy Advisory Service. Counselors will help you come to terms with your pregnancy and help you to find a way to speak to your parents. You will never be forced to do something you're not comfortable with. Telling parents about a pregnancy is the number one teenage fear for pregnant girls, but how can mom and dad offer their support and understanding if you don`t let them know. You owe them that much to let them know they are going to be a granny and granddad soon.
