Today I received from a close friend a message that was to cheer me up no end. Spread the news she said. Not that I was miserable this day, but a tonic would not have gone a miss, however after reading the message I got more than what I could have expected from any bottled pick-me-up. Its` funny if some one tells you something you want to hear, it makes your day. Well today mine was made, and I would like to make every other woman`s day too that feels she may need perking up. What was it Clint Eastwood would say when he played the character of Harry Callahan "Go ahead, make my day."
Spanish teacher was explaining to her students that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.
House for instance, is feminine: la casa.
Pencil, however, is masculine: el lapiz.
A student put his hand up and asked what gender is a computer. Instead of giving an answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer ' should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.
The men decided that computer should definitely be of the Feminine gender (la computadora,) because:
1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic.
2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
3. Even the tiniest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval.
4. And as soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your wages on accessories for it.
As the guys waited in anticipation for the female's reasons and response, their smug grins were to be wiped clean of their face because; they sure as hell were not expecting the response they got.
The women concluded that computers should be Masculine (el computador,) because:
1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on.
2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves.
3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they are the problem.
4. And as soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.
Now girls you have to agree that no tonic can ever have you feel as good, as when you see these so called know it all blokes taken down a peg or two. The outcome of this debate of the computer tower - emerged Girl Power.
