Is genital warts the same as vaginal pimples, if not, is genital warts the same as vaginal thrush then. The answer to this is in the name. What we mean is, if they differ in title then there`s every possibility they are not the same condition. Of course you will have particular illnesses which have different names but still refer to the same thing. For example: Thrush infection being the same as Candida Albicans. If you have a genital problem then you need treatment. More folk shy away from addressing the issue because of where the warts are sited on the body or more because of the reason for why they have occurred. Well the damage is done and needs to be undone, so save on the blushes and go see your GP.
Genital warts are caused by definite strains (sorts) of the human papilloma virus. In Britain, genital warts are the most regular viral infection diagnosed in genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinics. They mainly affect sexually active people under the age of 25. This does not mean they cannot affect people over this age. Genital warts are plump growths that locate on or around the genitals or anal section. It happens if you`re infected with the human papilloma virus (HPV). We have over 100 types of HPV which are responsible for genital warts. HPV attacks the epithelial (surface) cells in the skin causing them to develop in great numbers abnormally so a wart shows on or around the penis, vagina or anus. Appearance of warts can seem very different on certain skin types, for instance: they are found to be hard on dry hairy skin or soft on moist hairless skin. What you mustn't do if you have genital warts is to panic. They are not life threatening but severe stress can be, so therefore try and avoid the needless worries until you have spoken with your GP.
Some people hold back from looking for help because they are not sure that it is genital warts that they have. Whether you know or not, it should not stop you from checking yourself out regardless. If in doubt check it out. To help you clarify then the symptoms to look for normally include, that is if there is any, because not every person will have the symptoms, are the actual warts themselves which in women usually appear on the inside or outside of the vagina, on the cervix (neck of the womb) or around the bottom. In men it is the head or shaft of the penis and anus. Although not common they can also be found in the mouth, nose or throat. Itchiness can derive from having them but thankfully not painful. Wart location can bleed and show inflammation. Blood might be spotted in urine because the genital warts inside your urethra or rectum may bleed.
Some types of HPV are linked to cervical cancer. Reasons given for warts are that they are transmitted by skin to skin contact during unprotected vaginal, oral or anal sex and by sharing sex objects. If signs give you any inclination you have genital warts then see your GP or visit a genitourinary medicine (GUM) or sexual health clinic. All visits are confidential and you don't have to give your real name if you don`t want to.
Treatments will definitely differ to treat the problem. Severity of the condition is the reason why for difference. Genital warts are treated according to their size and to the specific spot they are sited.
- Chemicals might be used for removal. You yourself can treat the warts with these chemicals, but it is best to have trained person practice the method. Home solutions include the imiquimod and podophyllotoxin ointment. Podophyllin needs to be applied in a clinic by a nurse or medical practioner.
- Cryotherapy is a method which freezes the genital wart using liquid nitrogen.
- Laser therapy is also effective for breaking down genital warts. For this the process is done under local or a general anaesthetic.
- Heat treatment (electrocautery) can remove the genital wart and requires the use of either a local or a general anaesthetic.
People who are at increased risk of catching an HPV infection and other STIs, such as those who change sexual partners often, should have regular check-ups. Prevention sure beats having to go in search of a cure. Preventing genital warts will save you any embarrassment and pain that might be involved with your infection.
