Vaginal Odor – It`s surprising at the amount of women who get themselves into such a state because they believe it is only them that has a smelly vagina. This may come across as a crude way in putting it over but this is how these concerned women see it. No matter how hard you try to explain to a woman that it is just "merely" a vaginal odor, they tend to take up a defensive attitude and debate to the end that their odor is much more major - and not an issue to be taken as lightly as just being "merely." Odour they say sounds to meek for what they are experiencing, hence them sticking to their guns that they have a problem with a "smelly" being the stronger word, vagina.
Yes ladies it`s embarrassing I know but if you suffer symptoms of a genital infection then you need to seek treatment from off your GP. If you`re tempted to treat the infection yourself then fine, just make sure you have the right product, or familiar with the method you have in mind, but more importantly is that you know what you treat is definitely what you believe it to be.
It`s natural to have a vaginal odor, however depending on its strength can say otherwise. There is much confusion concerning the facts on how the vagina is an odorless organ, and yet it smells. This is not the case; it is causes that have you duped into believing it is the vagina. For instance: If you sweat and leave it, it smells, now let us say you have a sweaty vagina, do you say to the doctor that you have a sweaty vagina, no you don`t, you say I have a smelly vagina. When in fact it is not, it is the sweat that smells.
In all due respect to all women, I have to point out that if you don`t clean your bits as often as you should then you only have yourself to blame. Poor hygiene is primarily the first cause for the problem. The vagina itself does not generate smell. The vagina has to be washed thoroughly and not a quick once over with a wet flannel. Nevertheless this is acceptable if you are in work or otherwise occupied that you have no access or time to scrub up in the bathroom. The dirty vagina is like a magnet for bacteria. It can be hard to stop all bacterium entering the vagina, however you are in control of how much does.
Most common of queries asked by women is "Why is my vagina smelly "or "I bathe thoroughly but there is still a vaginal odor," well the good thing is both queries have answers. Bacteria are what we look at here. Most bacteria and yeasts inside the vagina are what normally give rise for smell through waste or by product.
Bacterial vaginosis is common, and a complaint recognized by the characteristic smell it generates. An infected woman suffering from BV will notice a distinctive fishy odor. The vast majority of vaginal odors are mostly a result of infection, although particular chemicals contained in specific products can bring smell also. Avoid products containing harsh ingredients. The vagina is a self cleaning organ and to freshen it up needs nothing more than warm water.
If the vulva`s layering of natural oils are upset by harsh ingredients it can cause dryness leaving the vulva irritated and you open to infection (yeast.) If permitted to slide into the urethra then we could be looking to treat a urinary tract infection. Not all products are problematic, but you must be sure. Take care with what product you use and if there is a slight bit of uncertainty then get a second opinion preferably from your GP. What these chemicals do is they can upset the natural PH of the vagina which causes an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria, genital mycoplasmas, and gardnerella vaginalis, with reduced or absent lactobacilli. If the growth is disturbed it causes bacterial vaginosis. Signs of BV is an unpleasant strong ‘fishy' smell and extreme loss of vaginal discharge and pain when urinating. Now with the yeast infection thrush we have vaginal soreness and itchiness. The yeast connected to thrush we also know as Candida albicans.
As with most infections diagnosis is nearly always derived from a woman`s vaginal discharge. Remember that bacterial vaginosis is the outcome of an overgrowth of natural bacteria in the vagina, once referred to as Gardnerella vaginitis, and it`s most evident symptom is the smelly fishy odor and the actual discharge appearing a greyish white and watery. If you have BV, then antibiotics (metronidazole "flagyl", clindamycin or tinidazole pills) are usually prescribed as 7 day course. Other effective creams are metrogel and cleocin.
We all have yeast in our bodies which lives in the intestines and vagina. If this yeast somehow unbalances, it can grow unnoticed. Over developed yeast masses irritate delicate tissues which cause thrush symptoms. The frequent need to scratch the vagina (vaginal itch) along with burning and soreness, and swollen vagina/vulva, or change in discharge is familiar symptoms of thrush.
Can a smelly vagina be the result of an STD (sexually transmitted disease?)
Sometimes you can have an STD without seeing or experiencing symptoms of the disease. While most STD's are curable, some cannot be i.e. herpes is a lifelong infection. STD's are spread easily during sexual activities and can also be passed on through blood. A staggering 25% of the population is infected with some type of STD.
