If you don`t know which are the most critical months in pregnancy then it is vital you find out now to keep yourself and unborn baby safe and healthy. Although we talk of particular months, every month is a critical month while carrying a baby. Things that can harm a developing fetus like smoking drinking and taking illegal drugs are a few to mention of what makes every month critical. When we talk of serious times in pregnancy we relate to the first 3 months. It is of the utmost importance that you avoid the potentially dangerous hazards that may cause nasty complications in your nine months of pregnancy. You need to focus on the good things that you will benefit from. Things that help you to carry your baby easier, have a sound and less stressful birth and contributes to your future child`s health are the focus points you need to concentrate on.

Some women unaware to them have miscarried doing something that they were used to doing before falling pregnant but sadly not knowing of the consequences if done while a growing baby is in the womb. There are several things you can do during your pregnancy to help carry a healthy baby. Things like taking folic acid and avoiding cats are matters you need to know about to stay safe. When a person has a health issue, whether it is about how to maintain good health or how to treat it if it has been infected in some way we naturally go see our GP for help. Well this applies to pregnancy. You have to keep all appointments at the clinic with your midwife or doctor so your pregnancy can be monitored, and should any problems rise they can be dealt with there and then.

Pregnancy pointers below to keep well

A pregnant woman will need folic acid and prenatal vitamins along with plenty of protein. If the ideal amount of folic acid is taken into the body it significantly reduces baby's risk for spinal bifida. Prenatal vitamins put goodness back into the body. Taking proper vitamins can help protect against diabetes developing. The RDA of protein for pregnant women is 75 grams up to100 grams which is more preferred. Ample intake of protein in pregnancy is essential for baby`s growth (especially the brain.) It is known also to help protect against preeclampsia during pregnancy.

A pregnant woman needs to check if she is immune to German measles (Rubella) because there is a high risk of miscarrying and fetal deformities if she has them.

Introduce exercise into your daily activities if your doctor says it is safe to do so. The most important of all to dos in pregnancy is to eat the right foods. Your diet needs to include plenty of vitamins, minerals and fiber. Check with your GP about fat in your diet because as a rule we have been led to believe it is not good, however the fat and cholesteral, which you normally try to avoid like it is taboo, are important for absorbing the fat soluble vitamins (A,D,E, and K) and for stretchable skin. Fat is also necessary for the developing baby brain.

The above are some of the usual things most pregnant women will know about, but there are also other things that you can do to better you`re pregnancy months that you may not know about.

Every home is full of hidden nasties (chemicals) which unfortunately can`t be avoided. Some to name are paint, stains and household cleaners. You can help filter these chemicals out by adding extra house plants around the home. Not only are houseplants decorative household items the spider plant is known for helping rid formaldehyde (contained in paints.)

Below are things you are not to do in pregnancy or stamp out completely from your life. You will be doing your body great justice if you keep them out or give them up forever after giving birth.

1. Smoking - Give up cigarettes and avoid smoking areas because passive smoking is just as serious and can harm your unborn baby. Exposure to smoke can result in spontaneous abortion, pre-term births, low-weight full-term babies, and fetal and infant deaths.

2. Refrain from drinking alcohol in pregnancy because the consequence is very damaging for the fetus. Alcohol has a variety of negative effects on a growing baby in the womb depending on the dose and frequency. After birth defects can be of the most severe kind in new born infants, - and retardation being one.

3. Pregnant or not, drugs are a no go. Taking illegal drugs in pregnancy is an idiotic thing to do and the guarantee of a safe delivery of a healthy baby boy or girl being born is zilch. The snippet following this I found about drug use in pregnancy should be enough to say you need to get clean. "In utero drug exposure is associated with an increased rate among newborns of low birth weight, central nervous system damage that may delay or impair neurobehavioral development, mild to severe withdrawal effects, and physical malformations such as cleft palate, heart murmurs, eye defects, and abnormalities of facial features and other organ systems." Unless your drugs are prescribed by your GP then it is not advisable to relieve backache or even headache with any type of painkiller without the doctor giving you thumbs up that it is safe.

4. Cut down on caffeine, if too much is consumed during pregnancy it is thought to increase the probability of a child contracting diabetes.

Now what I am about to suggest about the things to avoid while you are pregnant may have you think it`s all a joke, well it`s not because after doing some research on the list given below happens to be true and that they need to be avoided.

5. Tell your GP if you have any contact with reptiles as the salmonella virus is transferred through their feces and can affect your pregnancy.

6. Tick bites open you to the risk of Lyme disease, which can be lethal to your developing baby.

7. Fish concentrate methylmercury, which is known to affect the developing child's brain.

8. Don`t eat junk food because it doesn`t provide essential vitamins or protein needed in pregnancy.

9. Taking in as little as 4 times the RDA of vitamin A, you greatly increase the risk of having a baby with birth defects, Natural sources of vitamin A are fine - it is foods that are artificially supplemented you need to evade.

10. Avoid X-Rays when you're pregnant and put off dental treatment if possible till a safe period is given by your doctor or dentist to have dental X-Rays done.

11. It says in the book to avoid microwaves but I am not sure what to think on this "don`t" Ask your GP to put your mind at rest. Also at the same time enquire about your electric blanket as they supposedly give off low-level electromagnetic fields which may be harmful to a developing baby.

12. You should avoid tap water and drink bottled. Research says during the critical months of pregnancy tap water can increase risk of miscarriage.

13. Avoid pesticides and paint fumes

14. If your body temperate is allowed to rise to a dangerous level it can cause serious damage to your baby. Anything above 102 degrees is not good at all in pregnancy. Hot tubs/baths have a tendency to raise your body temperature and therefore are to be avoided.

15. Avoid cat litter boxes and working with undercooked meat because you run the risk of toxoplasmosis, which causes birth defects.

All the suggested advice and tips given here are not to be practiced or endorsed without checking with your GP first. All you have to do too keep your baby healthy while pregnant is to think about the infant 24/7 and this will help you make the right decisions as to what is the right and wrong things to do in your pregnancy.

Hi I would say not to worry as its not like your molly coddling cats all day long. However in pregnancy if something concerns you then have it checked out by your doctor for peace of mind.

Keep well

Hi I'm 19 years old and I'm not sure if I'm pregnant or not! I know taking a pregnancy test is the recommended thing to do but I'm scared to death to find out at this point! I'm having a lot of the symptoms you talk about but I'm still not sure if they mean I'm pregnant! What should I do?

Well I believe its definite that you should get the pregnancy test. I mean honestly its better to find out now and prepare than find out down the road and have the potentially built up stress to hit you like a ton of bricks. My wife had the same mindset, she was initially terrified, especially when she tested positive... So was I, but regardless after the initial shock, coming to terms with it becomes much easier a little down the road. Not that I'm trying to scare you or anything, but if you are pregnant then well you are and there's a lot to prepare for. If not and you re aren't planning on having a child in the first place, then yay :)

He gave us some great tips on some do's and don'ts in pregnancy and thus far is has been so incredible wonderful! I haven't had one sick day yet! Just wanted you to know, Kacy, that your article gave very sound knowledge on the subject on health during pregnancy, very similar to what our friend recommended us to do and not do. Thanks for taking the time to help women take care of themselves and their babies during pregnancy.

Umm, I think this is bull$%&*@$%&..bottled @#$%&*ing water is better for your baby? Tap water is regulated by the EPA as well as states and local governments while bottled water is only regulated by the Food And Drug Administration. Bottled water companies can put any thing inside a bottle of water and you wouldn't even know..The FDA doesn't even go to most plants in a year sometimes they go every 5 to ten years...

Bottled water likes to sell itself as being "pure" in its little clear bottles, but the fact is nearly 40 percent of bottled water is tap water (especially from Lake Michigan for example the Nestle company) with added minerals or filtration and there’s no guaranteed safety just because it’s wrapped in plastic and in fact there’s some risks. Even the bottles if heated leach off it's contents into the water..it causes a great rish of cancer, liver disease and reproductive problems. Not even to mention the fact it's harmful to the planet...I think you should pull down this site and get your facts straight woman..if anything bottled water is more harmful to your baby then smoking a @#$%&*ing joint...have a nice day!

and another add on don't eat junk food? oh my gosh!! everything is junk...almost anything you buy now is processed...your milk, your eggs, your cheese, your bread..processed, processed, processed did you know that a bottle of juice has more calories then a can of pepsi?...what year are you getting your info from...my baby is completely healthy and i think i've eaten more poutines and sour keys then ever in my life...this is just plain ridiculous...you dont have to stay away from cats...you keep the cat away from the baby yes WHEN IT'S NOT IN YOUR WOMB.. the only thing harmful is the litter and i get my boyfriend to clean it and still have the joys of my kitties around....working with undercooked meat is fine...eating it isn't...so what i can't cook chicken cause it's under cooked..it's going to seep through my skin? this is the dumbest article ever even my doctor says so...which is why i'm writing something now, she says that most of your "helpful information" is extremely wrong.. expecially to bottled water part...

Just saying the article says nothing about staying away from cats,it says dont go near the little box, you know the place where the cat goes to the bathroom. Spend time with your animals outside of that all you want. Yeah i agree all water is pretty much the same thing but theres really no reason to be so rude. And she didnt say junk foods bad she basically just said make sure you even it out with food that contains all the nutrients your baby needs.

not really all that helpful. not that i disagree with anything in the article, i just found most of it to be common knowledge. also, if you ask people to leave a comment ya cant expect it will always be a good one so you shouldnt attack them. totally pointless and unproductive. thank you for taking the time to write this. it is actually very well written, just not full of uncommonly known facts that i was specifically looking for.
