What could be worse than having a wet vagina? Well it has to be having a dry one. Women with a dry vagina tend to suffer pain and discomfort rising from vaginal dryness more so than that of the slippery vagina. Although a common problem visits to a doctor is not so common which is not ideal if you`re looking for a cure. These same women try and treat their own vaginal dryness just to avoid the embarrassment of having to discuss matters concerning their private parts. This is all well and good; however it is still best to talk to your GP for fear the cause of your vaginal dryness has come about from something that will not go away without medical treatment.

Vaginal itchiness and burning feel is just a couple of regular occurrences resulting from a dry vagina. It`s also a condition accountable for why so many women shun having sex with their partner, and is also a primary issue in female sexual dysfunction and painful intercourse.

Reasons for vaginal dryness happening

The female organ (vagina) produces a clear, fairly odorless vaginal lubrication that allows penis penetration easily accepted. The amount of lubricant produced by each woman will differ and is influenced by a number of different factors.

Influential factors for vaginal dryness may include:

Not every woman but for most, vaginal dryness is a direct result of lower estrogen levels that we see during menopause. When estrogen levels lower, vaginal tissue naturally thins, becoming less stretchy, drier and more delicate.

A decrease in estrogen levels can be the outcome of:

Vaginal dryness during perimenopause has us see an estimation of 80% of women suffering from it. As with any condition we look towards treating the symptoms deriving from it because, a condition is only a name of an illness or disorder. And we don`t treat names. The only symptom we look to medicate with a dry vagina is the actual "dryness." There are many things a woman can do to improve her condition and increase the health of vaginal tissue without prescriptive drugs and without using hormones. Let us look at what methods are practiced by other women as their chosen solution to relieve their vaginal discomfort.

It is vital for the body to stay hydrated so drink plenty of your water

Avoid particular products which may increase dryness or irritate sensitive vaginal tissue even if they are your favorite products that you use all the time. Remember that "favorite" doesn`t cure. Products that apply are specific soaps, detergents, bubble bath, douches, sprays and allergens. A healthy vagina is not a dry one, so direct all you're your energy to creating a healthy vagina in your quest to treat dryness or prevent it from happening. Kegel exercises are effective because they can increase circulation to the pelvic area which in return will help strengthen vaginal tissue. Sexual activity can also help heighten your body`s ability to fabricate vaginal moisture even after menopause. This is not reason enough to go out and flaunt your wares for the taking just to help moisten your vagina. If you are not in a relationship then you have other options you can turn too.

If dryness is a major issue while having intercourse then you need to consider using a water-based lubricant like Astroglide. You will find that using a lubricant that's water-based and water-soluble, and slightly acidic (pH balanced) to match normal body fluids is the best for doing the job. Stick with above given advice and avoid petroleum-based product, petroleum jelly, mineral oil or edible oil. Petroleum-based products tend to glue against the vaginal walls, masking infections and allowing a place for damaging organisms to mass.

While lubricants are good for intermittent dryness during sexual intercourse, moisturizing creams specially formulated for the vagina will better the health of vaginal tissues and keep the vagina moisturized for a longer period of time. This is what you are looking to do if dryness occurs infrequent. Some formulas that consist of ingredients, namely phytoestrogens - are noted for its ability to naturally refill waning estrogen levels. A quality moisturizer can help maintain the acidic milieu in the vagina and helps keep infections at bay.

A woman going through the change (menopause) might take hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to settle the uneasiness of her vaginal dryness of which is supposedly said to be one of the top most distressing menopausal symptoms. Some women although going through the mill so as to speak put up with the condition because they do not want use medication that is not natural. For these women you can try the natural ways given below.

The benefits of using flaxseed for many things will see the body benefit greatly. Because it's high in phytoestrogens, flax helps control hot flushes, breast soreness and cramps. Its high omega-3 fatty acids is a marvelous prevention force helping to fight heart disease, arthritis and balancing hormones, and also easing vaginal dryness.

Research found that Soy helps reduce menopausal symptoms such as night sweats and hot flushes naturally. And we all know girls how bad these can be where at times you would do anything or take anything no matter of the risks just to rid them. If you suffer from a thyroid disease don't add soy to your daily diet without medical advice being given first. Although soy is good for other things it can because of its ingredients (high in isoflavones) can affect the thyroid turning things nasty.

B-vitamins are essential if you are desperate to relieve your vaginal dryness. Vitamin E is also effective for the same thing. Vitamin A can help retain elasticity and the mucous membranes. Before taking vitamins or including exercise into your daily routine have your doctor give you the okay first.

A vast majority of women in menopause times take Evening Primrose Oil to settle the symptoms of menopause as well as a way for treating their vaginal dryness.

Although natural supplements have been proven effective, sometimes natural does not agree with everyone`s body so you need to be careful. People believe because something is natural and purchased from a herbal shop that it is safe. This is not the case, but in saying that it is too. Yes a natural remedy may well be safe but people and their bodies differ in lots of ways. So what may suit one woman as an antidote to her problem may end up being the cause of yet another problem for you.

Did you know when you treat your own vaginal infection you rid vaginal odour at the same time.

Hi I am afraid I am not in a position to advise on this - but it can do no harm to nip back and see your GP who will have the answer, and can prescribe other medication if this particular one hasn`t worked.

Keep well

Hi Laken sounds as if you are really suffering when you shouldn`t be. And your husband also. I can only suggest getting your doctor to check you out because no doubt it is painful and I bet very stressful for you both. The quicker you get the matter sorted then you both can "enjoy" what you had before your little baby came along without all the stress and pain

Keep Well and come back nd let us know how you got on

Hi Angela you shouldnt feel funny talking to your GP about things like this, as this happens all the time and is a common problem for lots of women. There can be many causes for this happening, and none that is something that should give reason for concern. I am not in a postion to suggest or recommend treaments because at the end of the day, if it is a "condition" or "infection" cauing this problem then it will have to be determined by your doctor first.

Just pop along to your GP and tell him or her that you feel a little uncomfortable over an issue that your embarrassed about. They will put you at ease and once you have this part over and done with, whatever else you have to say will flow from your mouth. And at  the same time you can get a precription to treat whatever it is that has your vagina dry up.

Come back and let me know how you got on

Keep safe
