How embarrassing the case of an itchy vagina. If a woman tells you she has never scratched her bits, then I am afraid that she is not being totally honest with you. Women will lie through their teeth before admitting that they scratch their private parts duly because of the rosy cheeks issue. For many women embarrassment doesn`t end there, aside from the admission matter to having an itchy vagina, it is them awkward moments, and we all have them, is when the need to scratch the vagina happens when out socializing with friends.

Every woman experiences vaginal itching at some time. An itch is an itch at the end of the day and the only way to relieve it, is to scratch it, however problems can occur from this, so scratch with care. The area of itchiness can become painful if the skin is torn by the fingernails. Skin tears leave an opening for infection to set in. Vaginal itching is usually explained as a tingling sensation or irritation around the vagina/vulva.

There are several causes for vaginal itching, and the most popular held accountable are chemical irritants. Ordinary every day products we use in the bathroom containing harsh substances usually give cause for an itchy vagina occurring.

Check ingredients before using

The vast majority of us women have our fair share of stresses in life of which we at times struggle to cope with, but when stress is said to increase vaginal itching leaving women more prone to infection, makes the matter more disconcerting. It's difficult to evade certain situations that can alter stress levels, but if women can find a way to handle these stressful events then woman and her body will benefit greatly.

One usual reason for vaginal itching is because the genitals have no breathing space. You need to loosen clothes around the crotch. Let air circulate so it can cool this particular spot down. If the genital area is permitted to warm up and become clammy it encourages any bacteria to increase in numbers, resulting in chaos in the department below. It doesn`t have to be something of a serious nature for you to start scratching the vagina/anus, it can come about from trapped bacteria under too many layers of tight garments. Incubating infections improve if settled in moistened sites.  Itchiness can also be the outcome of an allergy to a specific irritant or from infection such as vaginitis, which means inflammation of the vagina.

Let`s look at the medications and solutions available that are said to provide relief from vaginal itching. Many types of vaginitis frequently respond to a basic home remedy like the saline sitz bath.

For any type of treatment to be a success then it is important that the condition causing you to have an itchy vagina has to be medically confirmed. A vaginal infection cannot be ruled out as the cause. Itching can result from various infections, ranging from bacterial vaginitis to yeast (namely Candida albicans or monilia) and trichomoniasis.  Antifungal treatments such as Vagistat, Nystatin or Monistat are effective medications women are using to rid their vaginal itch.

Trichomoniasis is treated with antibiotics (Flagyl.) Bacterial infections call for antibacterial agents (sulfa drugs.) Your doctor will check first to see if you are allergic to any of the drugs mentioned. He/she might also give you an examination for the human papilloma virus (HPV.) Genital warts are caused by this virus and more times than not they can go unnoticed because of the itching. At the time of the menopause we see changes in and around the vagina which can bring itchiness. Your GP may prescribe hormone replacement therapy (HRT) as an option to relieve symptoms or specially formulated hormonal creams (estrogen cream or tablets to insert vaginally.)

1. Get the thought of douching out of your head as it is unhealthy for the vagina.

2. The old wives tale that talcum powder or cornstarch will do the trick should be avoided. Much debate over this says the tiny particles might collect near the ovaries and increase ovarian cancer risk.

3. Cut down on sugar because it feeds yeast.

4. Take 500 milligrams of vitamin C twice daily because it helps increase the acidity of the vagina, creating a yeast-unfriendly location.

5. After bathing blow-dry the vaginal area on a cool timer. Yeast needs moisture to survive so keeping the genitals "dry" is the best all round solution.

6. Once every 4 weeks after your period, add three tablespoons of boric acid to six inches of water in a bowl/basin big enough to sit in. This will help combat yeast.

7. A cup-a-day habit of yogurt with active Lactobacillus acidophilus cultures will decrease possibilities of yeast infections happening.

8. Any vaginal irritation can make way for yeast infection, so discard or discontinue using perfumes, colored toilet paper, dyed underwear, deodorants and specific sexual lubricants that contain ingredients that can harm you`re skin.

9. Wash clothes and linen bedding with unscented detergents

Aside from vaginal itching you mustn't ignore any experiences you might have like a burning sensation when urinating or other urinary symptoms because, it could be a sign of a urinary tract infection which is a more serious matter. Urinary tract infection is clearly described as the presence of multiplying micro-organisms in the tract through which urine passes from the kidneys through the bladder to the outside. The condition ranges from cystitis to severe infections of the kidney such as pyelonephritis.

If you hear names like Pruritus vulvae and vulva itching they both relate to the same thing an "itchy vagina."

Prevention advice

There is absolutely no excuse for having to put up with a vaginal itch because of the various types of medication/treatments available to cure the issue. It is your prerogative whether you seek medical attention or not, but if it is the embarrassment syndrome you suffer from, then I am afraid you will continue to walk like a penguin for a long time trying to get relief from your itch.
