Shaving pubic hair off is becoming an increasingly worrying issue and the reason why is because men and women are taking a razor to pubic hair before weighing up the pros and cons, in other words safety regulations. The number of people requiring hospital treatment for flesh wounds after shaving is very high indeed. Aside from razor cuts and skin nicks you need to protect yourself from infection, ingrown hairs and razor burns. The first thing you need to know about shaving pubic hair off is, do you know enough to keep you safe and achieve the best results from what it is you want to do to your genital hair. You may want to style it, trim it down or make patterns in it; even still you need to know what you're doing.
Is it easy to shave pubic hair? Yes it is, and no it's not when you see the amount of casualties in the accident and emergency room. If pubic hair is shaved off using the required technique then yes it is easy. If you want to remove pubic hair completely with a razor then you will need the right tools for the process. Without these you can expect disastrous results which could include health issues rising.
To rid genital hair leaving the skin smooth and soft, follow the guidelines below
Step 1
Lay out you're shaving equipment on a shelf/table (new razor blade shaving cream, shaving gel/foam, sharp scissors and antiseptic solution.) Oh and a band aid as it's always best to be prepared in case of an accident. Shaving tools should be close to hand so you`re not having to stretch which could result in you losing your balance and seriously hurting yourself. Make yourself comfortable, and ensure you have privacy for carrying out the process. The bathroom is better than a bedroom or kitchen. You have washing facilities and less chance of being interrupted in the bathroom. You should also take your time and not rush when shaving with a sharp razor. Using someone else's razor or a blunt blade become lethal weapons. Use a new blade every time you shave your pubic hair off.
Step 2
Pubic hair will need trimming first before shaving. It has to be at a manageable length for a better shave. Long hair will tangle and knot making shaving impossible. Using sharp scissors trim pubic hair taking a little off at a time. Don't be tempted to cut chunks because you need to know where you are up to with the trim.
Step 3
When the ideal length is reached you then prepare leftover pubic tuft for shaving. The area has to be thoroughly clean to avoid pimples, rash and irritation occurring. Wash and shampoo the hair and rinse. Make sure you dry well; wet hair gives cause for problems.
Step 4
Apply a good amount of shaving cream, gel or foam to the pubic hair and sudsy up. You are now ready to shave off your pubic hair. Take the razor and begin shaving in the same direction of which way the hair grows. Shaving in the opposite direction will not do the job proper. Tighten the skin to help get at awkward spots. If you experience problems trying to reach these areas because you can't angle the razor properly then use tweezers to remove hair. Try not to go over the same area twice to avoid damaging the skin. Rid stray hairs and lather with a good rinse. The skin could feel a slight sensitive now so apply baby oil or aloe vera to soothe.
What can occur from a bad shave, and which you are looking to avoid are cuts, abrasions, irritation, and ingrown hairs also called 'razor bumps.' Razor burns are common and can be painful. It is a mild rash that goes on its own after a couple of hours but can last longer (24 hours or so.) The more serious razor bump is usually seen local to where course hairs grow (bikini line underarms in women, and on the chest or beards of men.) Follow the golden rules on how to shave pubic hair off safely and you greatly reduce the odds of this happening to you.
Ingrown Hairs
After shaving you might see tiny bumps appear which cause discomfort in the way of itchiness, discoloration, or infection. In medical terms known as pseudofolliculitis barbae but referred to as "ingrown hairs" or "razor bumps" This happens as result of the hair shaft being cut leaving a sharpened edge which grows and curls back into the same hair follicle causing inflammatory response (redness, itchiness, and/or raised infected region.) Most ingrown hairs are visible to the eye under the raised area.
Razor bumps are a result of infected hair follicles. They come from the end of the hair shaft due to the way it is cut. Similar as above the hair is sharpened and grows curling back into nearby hair follicles.
Are ingrown hairs a life threatening issue, no?
Be strict with yourself and do as suggested to keep safe while shaving pubic hair off. Shaving in the same direction helps train the hair to grow out straight making it near to impossible to curl back into the skin. Products for soothing the skin if it feels like it is burning or stinging can be purchased from the chemist. If you haven't got an aftercare cream or lotion then dampen a flannel in cool water and settle over the shaved area to soothe and help soften the skin.
If ingrown hairs still persist then remove the plug of hardened proteins that block the hair follicle with exfoliation. Beta hydroxy acids (such as a salicylic acid) are good as it penetrates into the plug of hardened proteins and slowly dissolves the plug. Mild cleansing with gentle exfoliation will help keep skin smooth soft and supple.
Prevent razor burn
- Keep skin moist before shaving – Never dry shave
- Use proper shaving equipment - Blunt razors are dangerous
- Use plenty of shaving cream/gel or foam - Lather is essential
- Shave in the same direction the hair grows – Bad move going "against"
- Avoid close shaving - Skin scrapes are sore and painful
- Use gentle products not one with harsh abrasives – Harsh is harmful
- Apply moisturizer to skin where the pubic hair was shaved off.
I hope throughout this process that any close shave you may have had involved just your pubic hair and not other
