No it's not nice having scabs on your penis but it's not about nice, now is it, it's the worry of not knowing why they are there and what could have caused them. When something like this happens men tend to panic and think the inevitable, testicular cancer or a sexually transmitted disease as the cause for scabs forming on their penis. This is not the case in most cases of this occurring. A simple thing like scratching your willy can cause skin tears which then at the time of the cut healing brings scabs.
Chancroid: Never heard of it, well it's a sexually transmitted disease caused by a bacterium. It is mostly recognized in tropical countries. It affects men more than women. It is spread by sexual contact with an infected person. The first sign of infection is normally one or several sores or raised bumps on the genital organs. Sores are surrounded by a thin red border which soon fills up with pus and eventually ruptures, leaving a painful open sore.
Genital herpes is also a sexually transmitted disease caused by one of the two herpes simplex viruses (type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2).) Genital herpes is mostly identifiable to the type 2 class. Not everyone infected will see or suffer from the symptoms, but if they do occur they appear as one or more blisters/sores on or around the genitals or rectum. When the blisters burst they leave ulcers (sores) which can take a fortnight up to a month to heal. It has been known for men to confuse these blisters for ordinary penis scabs caused by other.
Syphilis patients don't always see or suffer symptoms for years, yet remain at risk of complications later down the line if it goes untreated. There are 3 stages of the disease. The primary stage we usually see a single sore (chancre) but others can appear. The chancre is normally solid, round, little, and painless. The chancre can last from 3 to 6 weeks. Treatment should be sought after because this infection can easily move onto the secondary stage. Skin rash and mucous membrane lesions characterize the secondary stage. In the last stage the infection becomes mighty and can subsequently damage internal body organs like the brain, nerves, eyes, heart, blood vessels, liver, bones, and joints. Other symptoms are problems with coordinating muscle movement, paralysis, numbness, blindness, and dementia. Death is known in this stage.
Scabies can cause scabbing. Scabies can be passed on during sex, or close intimate contact. It causes severe itching having you scrawb at the skin which can result in sores/scabs developing.
Genital warts are caused by a virus called the human papilloma virus. The appearance of warts can vary in each individual so you shouldn't go off pictures you see explaining what genital warts look like. Some genital warts appear like a small bump, whereas another case of warts cause an irritable rash. A more serious type takes on the appearance of cauliflower shaped growths.
Pubic lice also known as crabs are tiny, flat-bodied insects with claws that live on genital skin. They use the claws to cling on to pubic hair. They can appear to look like small scabs.
Other conditions linked to the genitals
Gonorrhea brings nasty symptoms like causing the patient pain when weeing, and have them want to wee often. Swelling of the testicles (swollen testicles) is another discomfort. These specific symptoms can signify an infection of the urethra. You may also notice a white, green, or yellow discharge ooze out from the tip of your penis. The penis will probably look redder and feel sensitive. Swelling of the glands in the groin area is usual. Other body parts the gonorrhea bacteria is noted to effect is the anus and throat. Infection in the anus will cause pain when opening the bowels…itchiness, discharge, and maybe bloody stools. An oral infection often causes a sore throat, and a pus-like substance on the tonsils or on the back of the throat.
A lot of penis problems stem through poor hygiene. If you look towards maintaining the genitals as suggested to keep it healthy and in shape then it must be done.
1. It is essential to practice a strict hygiene pact, but remember too much washing with soap and other bathroom products can cause soreness… so don't overdo it. Don't use talcum powder it can creep under the foreskin and cause irritation.
2. When you wash your penis do it gently and retract the foreskin regularly, no hard scrubbing this is a sensitive spot.
3. You should always check for change in the testicles. Set a monthly date in your diary to do a regular self examination of the scrotum. Should you detect a lump you can have it seen to right away. Although testicular tumors are the most common cancer in young males, not all lumps found in the scrotum are cancerous. When checking look out for
- a lump in one testicle
- pain
- tenderness
- discharge or pus
- blood in the sperm
- fluid inside the scrotum
- heaviness in the groin/scrotum
- breast growth
- enlarged testicle
- Have a warm bath to soften the skin of the scrotum to make it easier to feel the testicles inside.
- Feel for lumps on the skin or swelling on the inside of the scrotum.
- Support the scrotum and testicles in the palm of your hand and feel the difference between the testicles. One is usually larger and lying lower, which is normal, other from that, it's not normal
- Do one testicle at a time and compare them. Using both hands roll each testicle between thumb and forefinger.
- Examine yourself for lumps or swellings as both testicles should be smooth except where the duct that transports sperm to the penis, the epididymis, runs.
Should you panic after spotting swollen testicles
