What can I do to make my vagina smell better? Better than what? Each woman's vagina has its own unique smell and this sometimes gives cause for much confusion. Some women if their vaginal odor doesn't smell like the next woman's they panic and think their abnormal. I cannot emphasize at this point how important it is not to go down the road called comparison. Comparing any health concerns up against another person's can lead to serious problems for you, both mentally and physically.
In relation to odor the amount of women who come looking for ways to better improve the smell of their vagina when there is absolutely no need, is quite high. It is perfectly natural for the vagina to have a slight vaginal scent. Now you know the vagina smells you need to accept this and stop fretting, however should the odor smell foul caused by infection or other then this you don't have to accept. And remember, a smelly vagina doesn't imply you're abnormal.
There's no need to fancy up the vagina with different products as this takes away its true identity and natural smell. If what you smell is "not" unpleasant then leave it be because this could be the vagina's "natural" scent you want to better improve. There are many beauty products on the market in high demand to treat and better improve the skin and better improve the condition of hair that women believe necessary to have and rightly so, but, the vagina's demands is not the same unless diseased. To better improve vaginal health needs nothing more than having a clean vagina bathed in soap and water. Expensive feminine products are not a necessity.
Aside from soap and water and eating good foods for the upkeep of vaginal health there are things you can do to freshen the genitals "safely." To better improve odor we have the good and bad things to be wary about.
Let's look at the common reasons why bad vaginal odors happen
- Poor Hygiene
- Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) a bacterial infection known for its distinct "fishy" smell
- Yeast Infections may or may not cause odor
- Some sexually transmitted diseases can cause smell but because some STD symptoms in women don't show, odor may not occur, still, if you've been exposed get tested.
Urine: If you're e wee is strong then cleanse after each visit to the toilet. If urine soaks pubic hair it absorbs it and when dry results in stale pee hence smell. Can I somehow weaken my urine so the smell is not quite as strong? Specific foods and drinks like coffee, tea, and spices can lead to urine strength. Remember what you eat is passed out the other end so think about this before stemming your hunger and quenching your thirst.
Sweat: If sweat smothers the genitals it leaves that greasy slithery feeling around the vagina and anus. This is most unhealthy. The gooey matter should be removed as soon as possible. Carry non-scented baby wipes to remove sweaty slime from the genitals. In the hot months consider shaving pubic hair off to combat the pee and sweat problem. If you decide to remove pubic hair it doesn't mean you get out of washing the vagina as much, it simply means less to wash.
Urine and sweat are common causes of a smelly vagina. The vagina is a self cleaning and odorless organ which don't need douching because it's constantly flushing itself out all the time. Nonetheless odor-producing bacteria can increase on the vulva and need to be cleaned off frequently to prevent vaginal inflection and smell.
If the vaginal odor you're trying to rid isn't budging even after trying every solution then we could be looking at infection as the problem. If it's a fishy smelling odor then it's likely its bacterial vaginosis - a condition caused by an overgrowth of various bacteria. Depending on severity trying to better improve the smell of the vagina could prove to be difficult if affected by this condition without medical attention. A regular symptom of BV is discharge which normally appears white-grey color and brings the fishy odor. BV discharge tends to be heaviest after a period and sex. It's not known for itch or soreness around the vagina/vulva like some other vaginal infections.
Health of the vagina and smell are influenced by overall lifestyle, diet and weight.
-
Eat a healthy well balanced diet.
-
Stop smoking and drinking alcohol and using drugs
-
Avoid spicy foods if possible
-
Eat natural products and drink plenty of water
-
Because infections such as yeasts are found in the intestine, it is vital after using the loo to wipe the vagina heading backwards to the anus.
-
Avoid tight garments and specific fabrics which contain a high percentage of synthetic fibers, namely nylon.
-
Unchanged sanitary pads and tampons can create a nasty smell
-
Use a condom and a spermicidal to lessen the odds in catching an infection/disease.
Are you at this point more concerned about vaginal yeast infections than that of wanting to better improve the smell of your vagina, if so symptoms to look out for are?
Itchy vulva combined with irritation and redness around the vagina. Depending how severe the yeast infection is the vulva can swell and see fissures which causes discharge to turn white and thicken.
I've learnt a lot about vaginal health and hygiene.
Hi Ruche its always good to know about these things to stay healthy.Keep wellKacy
ive been reading around, to try and see what i might have. i don't and never have had sex, i wash everyday with a non-harsh soap, and i keep myself trimmed, but i don't have periods, and i haven't had a regular period since i was 14. im almost 19 now. im not sure if this plays a role in why i have the smell. its always a very strong smell, most of the times its a fishy smell other times it doesn't smell fishy but its not a normal smell. ive never gone to the gynocologist cause ive never had sex so i saw no reason. if you could tell me what could be going on id be very thankful,jHi Josie I wouldnt panic but I would suggest you go and see your GP about why your periods are playing up. Had you have said you hadn't started your periods at 19 then I would have said the same to go ask the doctor why the delay, which is known in skinny girls etc, however because your period did come and then disappears on and off it would be good to investigate as to why this is happening. As for the smell I would normally say infection, and especially if its a fishy odour then bacterial vaginosis is common and the one I would have likely said to be your problem.Because of your erractic periods there could be something going on in the inside, and like you say causing the odour. You didn't mention do you have a discharge. Vaginal discharge is a great pointer in trying to determine condtions.Josie I am sorry I couldnt be more help. I would pop a long to your GP or gynocologist. You don't have to be having sex to see oneKeep wellKacyCome back if you need me
That informations is very helpful. lately ive started to relise that my vagina is starting to smell, so ive decided to eat alot of fruits, drink lots of water, wash alot in the shower and wear cotton underwear, and no underwear to bed. is there anything else that could help?Hey Sammy it looks like you are already doing everything right. If there is odor and its not caused by infection then bathing is the answer.Keep well SammyKacy
Um, shaving your vagina can be bad for you. It's a sensitive area and pubic hair protects it. There's a reason we have hair down there in the first place.Hi and thanks for dropping by to comment. I couldn't agree more. Pubic hair is natural but not everyone sees eye to eye on this, however I think if the vast majority who shave down there were to suffer an infected ingrown hair, they may think twice before using a razor againKeep wellKacy
my name is Ania and i am 14 now and had this smelly smell down there. and i never had sex yet or anything. i do have discharge but the colour is yellow. i clean everytime in the shower, but i think it might be something to do with sweating. i do sweat but i dont yet shave my pubic hair. i thought that there isnt much need. should i shave if so, or shall i do anything because im scared that someone can smell it because its sometimes really strong. also after i take a shower i put on my pj's and i feel the discharge coming out and my pj's are already wet. not alot but enough to insecure me. and also i dont think it is the beginning signs of a period because i havnt started yet. PLEASE HELP D:i think, ania that you should talk to your gp about this. dosent sound good.but do not listen to me. you have to listen to Kacy Carr about this. but i really think you should need to talk to someone about this or it might get worse. Thanks Sophie for taking time to come here and reassure those with problems, your time is much appreciated
Keep well
KacyHi Ania its normal to have a discharge, and normal is usually a whitish colour, yellow sometimes mean infection, but normally with infection there are other symptoms. In your case it could be the start of one. Also Ania when normal discharge is exposed to air it can turn yellow, and this might be your problem. Can you not pop along to your doctor to find out for sure why it is this colour. I wouldn't panic because no matter the outcome it will be treatable. Come back and let me know how you get on

I have a 8yr old granddaughter that my daughter is very worried about. She has a very strong odor and have developed pubics like a young teen. On top of this have constant leakage during the day. She has seen a couple of doctors concerning the problem, and they are giving ranging suggestions due to her age. However my daughter don't want to act extreme because she is an eight year old. At this point she uses corn starch & baby powder to help absord the wetness along with panty liners but is concerned with how it is caked up at the end of the day. Trim her pubics to help decrease absorbance. Trying to make her daughter realize the importance of extra personal hygene outside from the norm of her other daughter and their friends. All the while don't want my granddaughter to feel insecure because her perception to others (referring to my granddaughter) is very important to her and she loves to be the main attraction, however is not totaling realizing how her vaginal area is rapidly taking over far before her years
