Veterans eat free in Golden Corral - It was while on holiday in Florida when I first heard mention of the name Golden Corral, and silly me naturally thinks Cowboys and Indians. Why you ask? So it's silly you now then is it, everyone has heard of Gunfight at The O.K. Corral. I know - I know before you make comment it's not the same thing, but can you at least try to understand where I am coming from on this. When you're in the land of Disney you have got to expect the unexpected. I am not trying to cover my tracks for this misconstrued assumption but you need to remember, I am in Mickey's world now, and anything is possible. You can be drinking a cup of coffee and have a 7 foot Shrek sit alongside you, so don't you think me odd for thinking about the Cowboy Indian thing, and confusing the Golden Corral with the O.K. Corral.

I have great memories of my stay in Florida, not only of the Disney parks, the friendly yanks and everything else that America has, but it was the experience of eating in the Golden Corral restaurant that I find hard to forget each time my tummy rumbles. The Golden Corral is a self service restaurant (all you can eat.) The US is a big country so god only knows how many there are of these eateries scattered around in different states. I even bet half of the yanks don't even know themselves.

I recommend anyone travelling to Florida to call in to a Golden Corral diner and delight in its offerings at price you can afford. So much food to fill your belly it's unbelievable. The thought of going back for seconds without having to pay twice is what I call value for money.

For them not in the know, and would like to know is, the Golden Corral is planning its 9th yearly Military Appreciation Monday Dinner this month between 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009. I would like to see the spread put on for the US Military Heroes, no doubt food fit for a king. I can honestly say that I have yet to travel the world to find a restaurant to beat the choice of food on display and the service provided when eating here.

Every Golden Corral restaurant around the country will be arranging a complimentary dinner buffet and drink to all U.S. military veterans, retired personnel, or those currently serving who attend the event. In the UK we are presently paying tribute today to them we loved and lost. Remembrance Day is the 11th November and once called Armistice Day? It is a special day set aside to remember all those in service who fought for their country and killed during the two World Wars and other conflicts. Special services are held at war memorials and churches all over Britain, and the Royal British Legion being one of the strongest promoters of this day with their poppy appeal.

The Golden Corral and the likes offering similar services of free veteran meals are indeed deserving of recognition for such a wonderful gesture. It is much appreciated by them who qualify to be pampered and their belly filled. The restaurant chain has announced no identification is required for the service member who in uniform, or once wore one with pride, and their family is welcome. The free meal is limited to military personnel and veterans only

Do a good deed today. There are many veterans who may live by you who don't have family and live alone. If you know an ex serviceman/woman that can't go out unaided then why not ask this person if they would like to get their free meal from the Golden Corral, and that you will escort them.

Golden Corral Eateries Salute US Heroes with Free Dinner on Military Appreciation Monday and remember those sadly not with us.

On Nov. 16, Golden Corral will also aside from the free meal deal for veterans raise donations for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). This began nine years ago to celebrate our nation's heroes, and now a traditional event. Golden Corral's Military Appreciation Monday has served up to over a staggering two million complimentary meals to military personnel and made nearly $3.3 million in donations for state and local DAV chapters. The Golden Corral and all its effort may well go down in history for such compassionate doings.

For the American not sure how many Golden Corral restaurants there are - there are 485 of them around the country (41 states) employing 45,000 staff.

My last visit to Florida was to attend my son's wedding, and believe me we were tempted to have the wedding breakfast in the Golden Corral where we had previously ate nearly every morning and evening during our stay on Yankee soil, but we needed a change and opted for a Chinese. Do we have regets for eating Chinese style, yes, we would have saved a lot of money and been able to have a second helping of Chow Mein. We stayed on International drive and the perks of our hotel location being here is, that the Golden Corral was located here to. You can keep your Sizzlers, McDonalds and Denny's because I prefer to eat at the "O.K" Corral. No I haven't made a mistake again I just thought it more fitting because I eat like a horse.

I would like to end with a beautiful poem I came across for those still here and for them who aren't, but not forgotten

Take A Moment To Thank A Veteran (The Unknown Soldier)

When you see someone in a uniform

Someone who serves us all

Doing military duty

Answering their country's call

Take a moment to thank them

For protecting what you hold dear

Tell them you are proud of them

Make it very clear

Just tap them on the shoulder

Give a smile, and say

"Thanks for what you're doing

To keep us safe in the USA

Hey Dad I hope you got my special message today even though I tell it to you every day in prayer "I love you" and will never forget you. I wonder are you the "UNKNOWN SOLDIER" referred to in this poem.

Is Depression a part of your life you can do without?
