Edward Woodward is dead. British actor and recording artist Woodward died in hospital at the age of 79. He will be sadly missed by them close to him and his fans. Woodward was best known for many roles both on TV and stage, and in films too. He is strongly noted for his role starring in the film called the Wicker Man. I remember watching this gripping movie that Edward played a policeman in, a storyline I will never forget.

The veteran actor was suffering from pneumonia and other sicknesses while in Royal Cornwall Hospital. Edward Woodward's agent Janet Price said the veteran actor was "universally loved. Other roles that Woodward played and was noted for, was TV series Callan and The Equalizer. She added, "He was equally fine and heroic in real life, never losing his brave spirit and wonderful humour throughout his illness that was to kill him." Woodward is survived by his second wife actress Michele Dotrice, and four children, three of whom he had during his first marriage before tying the knot with Dotrice. Michelle Dotrice was also an aspiring actress and famously known as Betty, the better half of accident prone Frank Spencer (Micheal Crawford) in the TV series "Some Mothers Do Av Em" Michele Dotrice was born 27 September 1948.

Edward Woodward, who died at the age of 79 on 16 November 2009, enjoyed a long and diverse acting career in both Britain and the United States. He first won praise for his work as a Shakespearean stage actor.

Michelle Dotrice married Edward and became the second Mrs Edward Woodward after his marriage to Venetia Barrett failed to last till death us do part. It lasted for 34 years from 1952 to 1986. He married Michele Dotrice in 1987 which lasted up until his death today November 16th.

Woodward fathered three children to Venetia Barrett - two sons and a daughter - Tim, Peter and Sarah who all went on to follow suit of their dad with each becoming successful actors in their own field. He leaves behind a daughter Emily from his second marriage to Dotrice. His grandson, Sam Woodward, is also an actor, no doubt following in his granddads footsteps too.

Born in London in 1930 he trained for his career at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Edward Woodward not only did act, but was a very talented singer who produced many musical recordings. In total the Woodward collection is 14 albums; 11 feature his singing; 3 are recitations of his poetry.

He was recognized for his contribution to the entertainment world of acting, and other, by being awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in 1978.
