What is Prostate Cancer? Well it's a disease that of late in the news told us that Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, 61, famed for musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat has just recently been diagnosed with. The same cancer affects around 35,000 men in the United Kingdom every year and sees over 10,000 of them die, more than likely due to them not receiving the prostate cancer treatment in time that could have saved their lives. Whether it's man or woman, cancer is cancer, and you wouldn't be human if you were not scared witless after it's been confirmed you have the disease.

Why is men alerted to check for prostate cancer symptoms and women to breast cancer symptoms, than any other type of cancer. Oh yes they are. It is just that these two sorts highlighted are the common cancers in each gender accept for lung cancer that is, which tops prostate cancer as being a deadlier form of the disease. Colon cancer, cervical cancer, pancreatic cancer and cancer of the bowel are just a few to mention not far behind them.

Most cancers are curable, and for those fortunate who lived to tell the tale, more than likely did so because their cancer was caught in its early stage and received the appropriate cancer treatments. Think early detection and there's every possibility of survival.

It only seems like yesterday when confused fans of Dirty dancing star Patrick Swayze 55 cried buckets of tears on hearing the news he'd been diagnosed with prostrate cancer. Swayze did in fact die from pancreatic cancer. The tears continued to flow when Swayze passed away two years after as a result of his pancreas ravaged by cancer. Swayze's condition was determined with advanced stage four pancreatic cancer.  Jennifer Grey, who co-starred with Swayze in Dirty Dancing, said "Patrick was a rare and beautiful combination of raw masculinity and amazing grace. Gorgeous and strong, he was a real cowboy with a tender heart. "He was fearless and insisted on always doing his own stunts, so it was not surprising to me that the war he waged on his cancer was so courageous and dignified." Sadly these kind words were not enough to save him. You can be as strong as ox, built like the hulk and as fit as Tarzan, but I'm afraid cancer doesn't know this and neither would it care if it did.

Swayze said In a US TV interview, he was "scared" and "going through hell". "Am I dying? Am I giving up? Am I on my death bed? Am I saying goodbye to people? No way," Swayze told TV interviewer Barbara Walters. Positivity gives people strength and hope, but hopes are easily dashed. Nonetheless folk have to stay positive throughout a cancer experience.

Details about Prostate cancer

A prostate tumor is a lump created by a malformed and unrestrained growth of cells.  Finding of an unusual lump should have you alert a doctor to examine you because lumps are common warning signals, in having said this they can also be caused by other conditions. A prostate tumor can be one or the other, malignant (cancerous) or benign (non-cancerous.) Prostate cancer is recognized more in males over the age of 50. This doesn't mean when you hit the big 5-0 you'll be struck down with the disease, it simply means it happens to men around this time more than it does younger men, but still who are just as vulnerable

The prostate gland creates the liquid part of semen. In size it's similar to a damson, maybe a slight bigger that's settled at the bottom of your bladder. The front of the prostate environs the urethra, the tube that takes urine from the bladder out through the penis.  The prostate can narrow the tube if it alters in form or size, making it difficult for men to pee (urinate.)

I know it's not something men like to do is go to their doctor, and for whatever reason why is nobody's business but their own. Nevertheless they should make it their business. If you worry over the disease or have cause to panic then ask you're GP about having a prostate cancer screening session if available. Regular prostate cancer screening tests as it is with breast cancer saves live.

Symptoms of prostate cancer listed below are ones you need to take heed of immediately if you experience or notice any one of them

The signs mentioned in the list are similar to those created by a common non-cancerous disease where the prostate becomes enlarged (benign prostatic hyperplasia.) If prostate cancer spreads to other body parts, different symptoms can show up. The regular location for prostate cancer if it spreads is the lower back, pelvis and hips. These bones can become sore and tender. Prostate cancer prevention is something to be looked towards to stay healthy and alive.

Causes of prostate cancer

The cause of prostate cancer isn't something we have evident proof of but nonetheless cancer studies say you're more likely at risk of prostate cancer if:

Hey guys its normal to panic, and it doesn't make you any less of a man if you feel a lump in your testicle or see discharge leave the penis, but panicking is not the solution. It is your doctor that has the cure for the cause of your swollen testicles or what it is that appears abnormal that you have found in or around the genitals.

Common prostate cancer prevention question:  If I eat healthy will I still get prostate cancer, good question. While "some" evidence suggests a low-fat diet can reduce the risk of prostate cancer, it only suggests "some" so what of the missing link to give us full proof. However eating a healthy diet is essential for overall health, and great in helping prevent other serious conditions. Some research suggested that a diet high in tomatoes, Vitamin E, cruciform vegetables (such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts) and selenium are great sources in helping decrease risk in getting cancer.  But once again nothing set in concrete to prove that it does.

Treatments for prostate cancer

Not all cancers develop the same and with prostate cancer it is slow at developing that no treatment is needed. Suspected cancer will have the patient regularly monitored to keep an eye out for any change. If things change and treatment required, then there are four main sorts used:

Other treatments can include Cryotherapy. This involves a metal probe inserted directly into the prostate tumor which freezes the tissue and destroys the cells.

As with most treatments there are always the side-effects. For example: The prostatectomy operation increases risk of impotence and a small risk of urinary incontinence. Your GP will tell you everything you need to know.

An important part of prostate cancer treatments is having support to deal with the emotional aspects as well as the physical symptoms that also cause issues. Specialist doctors and nurses that deal with cancer patients will give you all the support you need.

If the cancer in an advanced stage, further support (palliative care) is given in hospices or at home.

Prostate cancer can often be cured if it's treated early so if you suspect something isn't right no matter how big or small the concern then consult your GP. Not only will you be doing yourself a favor but also for them who need you to stick around a little longer.
