John Lennon - Twenty nine years to the day we lost a rock legend who will be forever remembered for what he gave to music and his fans that loved him. Sadly, John Lennon former band member of the Liverpool Fab four (Beatles) had one fan so crazed and off his head, shot John Lennon dead. He was murdered outside his front door on the night of 8 December 1980.

News of the John Lennon shooting outside his Dakota apartment building spread like wild fire. It came as a shock to me when I heard the sad news because I actually had the pleasure of meeting Lennon when the Beatles were making a film in the place I was born in Wiltshire. I went on to grow up with his music and more near to him after moving home where I practically lived on his doorstep.

On the night of 8 December 1980 a group of about 20 individuals gathered outside the entrance to the apartment building which proved at the time that something was wrong which alerted others to become curious as to who was shot. John Lennon was taken to nearby Roosevelt Hospital where he died shortly after being admitted. It wasn't long before broken hearted fans gathered in the hundreds around the Dakota apartment building where it soon was to become a makeshift shrine. As of late we have seen this with the passing of another music legend Micheal Jackson. Fans of John Lennon came together chanting Lennon's anthem Give Peace a Chance.

"The area was filled with police trying to keep the crowds in order who came to pay their respects and say prayers for the dead John Lennon.

Last year murderer Mark Chapman went up before a parole board and had the audacity to question media accounts of the killing. Hey buddy you killed an innocent man not worthy of a bullet. Mark Chapman 53, argued against false claims made by the media that he called out to Lennon before shooting him in New York on December 8, 1980. "I don't recall saying, 'Mr. Lennon', he said. No but I bet you remember pulling the trigger of the gun that was to kill him so who cares whether you called his name or not. May be if you had then John Lennon may have seen what was coming. Chapman said "I think that was something the press elaborated on. That didn't happen. He didn't turn. I shot him in the back," he said.

Mark Chapman fired five shots at Lennon (rock legend), hitting him four times killing him in cold blood as his wife looked on and who was lucky to get away with her life. Here we now have a wife without a husband and a little boy without his dad. Apparently Mark Chapman had carefully planned the shooting three months earlier after seeing Lennon on the cover of the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album.

Chapman said "I just saw his face and seen a solution to my problem of being confused, and feeling like a nobody. Mark said he thought now wouldn't it be something if I killed this individual? I would become famous, I would be something other than a nobody'. And that was the reason he gave at the time for killing John Lennon. Chapman said he was angry because he seen Lennon as phony. Here he is living the high life in a classy apartment and singing of love and peace he said

Chapman apologized for killing John Lennon. It's a bit late for sorry you sad sucker.

Chapman has been locked up for 28 years in the Attica prison in upstate New York. And in the last 16 years has earned privileges enjoying annual 44-hour conjugal visits from his wife who has stuck by him, another sad sucker if you ask me. This is unfair because Yoko Ono is never to see her husband John Lennon ever again

In front of the parole board Chapman put forward a plea that he had a job offer on a farm in upstate New York. But the parole board rejected his request "due to concern for the public safety and welfare". The parole board shouldn't even be considering public safety and giving an explanation to killers as to why their appeals are denied. You need to keep people behind bars who take another's life till they rot

John Lennon was born: October 9, 1940, Liverpool, England

DIED: December 8, 1980, New York, NY

At college Lennon met a woman by the name of Cynthia Powell, who he married in August 1962 and had a son together called Julian

At sixteen, Elvis is what was happening. John created the group called the "Quarry Man". Who I know the drummer personally and his name is Colin. They performed at school. One day, Paul McCartney was introduced to him. Paul McCartney now who answers to Sir is this week's guest on the X Factor final 2009. John Lennon will never know of shows as such with his passing on so many years back. I often wonder what a guy with amazing talent as he would have thought of the X factor and other shows like American Idol.

John invited Paul to join the group and he accepted and the next day. Paul McCartney introduced George Harrison to John Lennon. The first recording they made was called "That will be the day" by Buddy Holly. Liverpool's fab four were discovered by Brian Epstein in the Cavern, whom later became their manager. The Beatles released their first single "Love me Do." The Beatles first number one chart was "Please Please Me" written by John Lennon himself

John Lennon divorced first wife Cynthia and re-married with Yoko Ono in November 1966. And On October 9, 1975, Yoko gave birth to John's other son Sean. In 1970, the Beatles split up after Paul McCartney announced he was leaving the Beatles. Paul McCartney had great success with his group (Wings) who he later formed with his late wife Linda who died of cancer at the age of 56. His solo career has earned him millions of pounds as so it did with John Lennon.

His songs will live forever in all our hearts and minds. Just Give Peace a Chance and we will forever have this if all the Mark Chapman's are behind bars.

20 fans.
I remember that day even though I was only a small child. I have been a fan since I started listening to music. Your account of that night makes me sad knowing that such a talent was taken so young. I pray that people everywhere realize the treasure that was lost that night. I also hope that Yoko and Jullian both have found peace with their loss.
