Facebook warning to all members - Every facebook user is being watched unbeknown to them. Things are changing dramatically on the facebook site that not many of you are aware of, but should be.  You need to change tactics when logging into your facebook account today. Do you normally go straight in to your facebook homepage to get all the latest juicy gossip from friends and family and never bother to check what's going on behind the scenes that may implicate you? Well now you need to be bothered and make sure you're safe from prying eyes.

If you are already a member of facebook and have logged in of late then you will have noticed that the social networking site has changed its privacy settings. Yeah so what, I love the site so how will this affect me you ask. We all love facebook that's why it has so many members because it gives people the opportunity to interact with friends and family no matter which part of the world they live, and much more, so why wouldn't anyone love it. Nonetheless the new change that's been introduced could severely increase the amount of personal information people display online. This has infuriated digital rights groups and civil liberties campaigners.

What's involved with the change? The changes will allow more information about you to be strewn all over the internet such as personal photos and homemade videos unless you specifically edit the settings yourself, "and" status updates will be picked up by search engines. Is this what you want? Starting from today if you don't want your mug shot on view to the world then you must make sure not to forget to log into your facebook account to stop this from happening. You have to act fast because Facebook don't play the waiting game

One of the changes you may notice is the pop-up message that welcomes members asking them to change their privacy settings. If you are intending to interact with others to day then make time to read up on these changes to protect you and them. Let your friends know in case they like you at one time might not bother to check things like this out.

It was only yesterday 9th December when Facebook made the new move which they said was to assist facebook members to manage updates they want to share, and that there is no dishonest intent. Facebook insiders say they are not out to belittle members or other, of what they have been accused.  It is definitely not an underhand move to get more information from its members said the Facebook insider.

Those opposed to the change put forward their argument to prove their claim of this being a dishonest act. Facebook was asked "So why then is status updates now automatically made public unless specified otherwise by the user? Kevin Bankston, a senior attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation was adamant to fight the cause so as to speak and said "These new 'privacy' changes are clearly intended to push Facebook users to publicly share even more information than before," and to add insult to the injury, you know by endorsing this change will reduce the amount of control that members have over some of their personal data."

This is not good news having no control over what you can and cannot do. Of course there will always be rules and regulations delivered on any social networking site that you have to adhere to, but your personal life and doings displayed over the web without your consent is not a rule but violation of your privacy. Facebook social networking site is host to 350 million users, that's a lot of people with a lot to say; however it should be their prerogative who they want to hear what it is they have to say.

A spokesman for facebook Barry Schnitt said facebook members could avoid disclosing some personal data to people on facebook they did not know by leaving gender and location fields blank. Any assumption we're trying to deceive our users, he more or less implied was ridiculous. That would mean we would be working against any goal that we have," said Mr Schnitt. I think Barry you need to tell this to Kevin Bankston, a senior attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation because he's' having none of it. And if the users on facebook feel the same way, then consider this a warning.

Schnitt in defence of Facebook went on to say they were encouraging users to share their updates because it was in line with "the way the world is moving". Yes we don't doubt that for a minute but shouldn't it be our choice if and when "WE" want to move with the times.

Blogger Marshall Kirkpatrick put his penny worth in and said this is not what Facebook users signed up for. This issue isn't about privacy for Facebook; it's about increasing traffic and the visibility of activity on the site. I have to agree with Marshall on this. Any webmaster whether it be the facebook organisation all want the same thing like wanting to see more traffic, and see regular action on their websites, however if it includes getting this at another's expense, then surely this spells out deceit which is not on.

4 Comments left by facebook members on the matter below you may like to read. Names unknown do you see that facebook, names unknown because "they" wanted it that way.

Comment 1 - Hmmm.... First our photographs become theirs, giving them the right to sell them for whatever price, now we are open to more phishers and scammers, by unknowingly displaying more than we want. Why don't they just get right to the point and ask us for our credit card details, with PIN and address and display them as well. I'm beginning to feel a little bit more and more raped by FB; our identities are being stolen for their gain. There will eventually be a member of the public who decides to create a new social network site that offers security from all this corporate mess and then maybe that will be the downfall of FB. Listen to your users, Facebook. Otherwise you may poison your own feed.

Comment 2 - I just deleted all my content. I am leaving it open long enough for friends to reach me and get my details before I leave.

Comment 3 - Chipping away at privacy, not good, so ‘I'm off. I doubt others will do the same. There is a saying about boiling a frog.... if you put it in warm water then increase the temp slowly it will sit there happy till it's cooked. They will be checking what colour knickers you are wearing soon, and I would not be surprised to see people going along with it. Small changes over time go unnoticed, till you are painted into corner with your back up against the wall.

Comment 4 - People use facebook to interact with others. It's unfair and bang out of order to share our photos, comments and 'in jokes.' This is a ridiculous abuse by FACEBOOK and something which is bound to cause problems for its members.

This is only four that show their concern and disappointment with the change. Take heed facebook you wanted as many facebook users as you have, was it not 350 million the figure. This is a lot of people who when get gist of this will not be very happy, In fact maybe so enraged they may want to make changes like you and change their facebook account to "no longer here" and can be found at Twitter or MySpace etc.
