Is this a day over the festive holiday period you don't give much thought to because you're to busy preparing for Christmas, and then when Boxing Day is on you, you're gutted you never arranged to do something special to celebrate on this day.
If you live outside of Britain then you might not be familiar with Boxing Day
Just like Christmas Boxing Day sees family gatherings celebrate by eating drinking and having fun. The only thing that may differ from Christmas day is the opening of Christmas Gifts. Boxing Day is more a relaxing time and less hectic than Xmas day where family members take things easy and play lots of board games. Board games are a common pastime on Dec 26th because someone always on Christmas day is gifted Cluedo Monopoly, Snakes and ladders, and scrabble or other.
If you live in Britain then there's a possibility you may not have heard of Festivus. Festivus is a nondenominational holiday that is celebrated on December 23rd two days before Christmas Day. The TV show Seinfeld helped popularize this holiday. Dan O'Keefe a writer on Seinfeld father discovered the holiday in a book published back in 1966. The O'Keefe family over many years has celebrated the Festivus holiday. Then Dan told the story of Festivus to the Seinfeld staff and the rest is history. Today it's a widely celebrated holiday.
Boxing Day Ideas
On Boxing Day some families like to stay at home snuggled up in front of the fire watching television or DVDs, however and in contrast to this, we have people who prefer to go out, and like their fun to last up until the New Year celebrations.
Great ideas on what to do this Boxing Day
If you live close to London or have transport to get you there weather permitting, then consider going on a day out in the Capital. Several London attractions will open on Boxing Day, many of which are conveniently located on the South Bank, which makes it easy to cater for different tastes in how people like to be entertained.
1. Choose one of London's many museums to visit
2. Take a ride on the London eye and enjoy the sights from a height so you see all.
3. Visit London zoo. You have to be careful because it can be costly to get into any zoo let alone London's, and at this time of year not many animals come out of their dens, pens or whatever houses them from the bitter cold. So it could be a waste of time and money down the drain. It's a chance you have to take. If you like polar bears and penguins then I am sure you won't be disappointed.
4. If you would like a day trip on the Thames (boat cruise) then wrap up warm and bring a flask of hot coffee or soup with some snacks to stem the hunger as you're not getting off the boat till the cruise along the Thames is over. And anyhow food is expensive on trips as such for a mere morsel of grub that they serve up.
5. If you have a few bob left over after spending out at Christmas then traipse the streets of London going in and out of shops to pick up a bargain in the Boxing Day sales. Although Boxing Day sales start in December, folk call them the January sales. Why wait till January to get to the shops, when the best bargains are to be got on December the 26th
