Is Vic Chesnutt dead or not? It is yet to be confirmed if the singer-songwriter from Athens has died. The singer-songwriter known for his painful and poignant songs is in a coma and was hanging onto life after an apparent suicide attempt.

Twitter users were flat out twittering each other about the singer's condition when it first came to light about what had happened and what seemed to be rumor at the time about Vic Chesnutt, only to find what they heard was true.

News of the entertainer first spread through the Internet like wildfire on Wednesday via Twitter posts by former Throwing Muses singer Kristin Hersh, who has collaborated with Chesnutt. "Another suicide attempt, looks bad, coma--if he survives, there may
be brain damage," said Hersh in one of her posts.
Singer Kristin Hersh also posted on Twitter that Vic Chesnutt was a beautiful singer and recently completed his tour to support his latest release, At The Cut.

Chesnutt was only in his teens when he was involved in a car crash which left him wheelchair bound at the age of 18.

Chesnutt had only turned 45 just a month ago and now supposedly dead, he was born on November 12, 1964 and he was writing songs from an early age but he became popular with the release of the tribute album Sweet Relief II: Gravity of the Situation.

Those familiar with the singer-songwriter from Athens will know his wheelchair experience never stopped him from achieving his dream. The aspiring musical maestro Chesnutt joined the group, The La-Di-Da's in 1985 and after leaving the group he went solo and never looked back. He continued to be successful and was a very talented guy and this was proven in the amount of record sales he notched up over the years while in the music business.

Vic Chesnutt was the subject of PBS documentary, "Speed Racer" not only this he also performed a small role in the movie Sling Blade by Billy Bob Thornton in 1996.

The news of his death is not officially confirmed, but listening to the news and reading posts of his close friends tells us Vic Chesnuut aged 45 is dead.

I think we know now what the meaning of that line in the Christmas carol means "In The BLEAK Mid Winter. Over the last couple of months leading up to the festive season it has been bleak with so many deaths, some expected and some not. The music world today has lost one of it's all all time greatest singer-songwriters Vic Chesnutt.
