In remembrance to those that we loved and lost in 2009 - As we near into the New Year 2010 there will be a lot of people who can't wait to see the back end of this year. Those people may have good reason for feeling this way where they might have suffered a broken heart after losing a loved one, famous or not. Nonetheless there will also be just as many people who evaded misery falling upon them and had joyous moments and wish this year would last forever.

In memory of some key personalities from the world of film, television, music and the arts who never lived to see in the year 2010.



1 Bea Arthur all time favourite Golden Girl who died of cancer in April at the age of 86. Arthur was also famous for the show Maude

2 Farrah Fawcett was best loved for her part in "Charlie's Angels" and recognized for her head of wild curly locks. Farrah Fawcett died in June. She was 62 years old. Her death on the same day as Michael Jacksons passing left a huge void in the world of showbiz.

 3 Stephen Gately was a famous pop singer who was found dead in October 2009 in his holiday home in Majorca. He died of natural causes. The 33-year old gay guy was a former member of Irish boy band Boyzone.

4 Jade Goody, who made her name on reality TV show Big Brother in 2002, died at the age of 27 on Mother's Day 2009 from cervical cancer. She was a mother of two young sons and had wed the love of her life Jack Tweedy a couple of weeks before her death.

5 Tony Hart children's presenter and great artist died aged 83 in January 2009. Hart had been ill for a long while and suffered two strokes.

 
6 Michael Jackson king of pop unexpected death in June shocked the world. He was only 50 years old and left behind 3 children and millions of broken hearted fans


7 Maggie Jones best known as Blanche Hunt in the soap Coronation Street, died aged 75 in December.

8 Danny La Rue died at the end of July 09 aged 81. He had been ill with cancer. He was a famous drag queen..

 

9 Frank McCourt died of cancer in a New York in July 2009 and is a best-selling author of (Angela's Ashes.) The 78-year-old Irish-American author had been suffering from meningitis and had recently been treated for skin cancer.

 
10 Sir John Mortimer known for Rumpole of the Bailey died in January 09 at the age of 85 after a long illness.

 
11 Brittany Murphy died aged 32 days before Christmas. She starred in films Clueless and 8 Mile.

 
12 The world of rock music paid tribute to guitar legend Les Paul when he died in August 09 aged 94 from complications of pneumonia in New York.

 
13 Wendy Richard former Eastenders actress (Pauline Fowler) died in February 2009 at the age of 65. Richards had been fighting breast cancer.

14 Natasha Richardson wife of Liam Neeson died in March 09 at the age of 45 following a skiing accident in Canada. The daughter of actress Vanessa Redgrave suffered severe head injuries and later passed away in a New York hospital.


15 Mollie Sugden passed away aged 86 in July 09. Best known for starring in the hugely popular sitcom Are You Being Served?

16 Patrick Swayze died aged 57 in September 2009 after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Swayze was loved for his roles in Roadhouse Dirty Dancing and Ghost with Demi Moore

17 John Updike was a famous American author who died at the age of 76 from lung cancer. He died in January 2009. His first novel "The Poorhouse Fair" was published in 1959.


18 Edward Woodward's death occurred in November 09 he was 79. Woodward was married to Michelle Dotrice and famous for his roles in cult 1973 horror film The Wicker Man and The Equalizer and Callan.

2009 has seen the passing of many much loved characters that have gone but not forgotten. The list of deaths would be too long to name, so for them omitted we are thinking of you.

Prayer for the Dead

God Our Father your power brings us to birth,

your providence guides our lives, and by your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in your presence,

their lives change but do not end.

I pray in hope for my family,

relatives and friends,

and for all the dead known to you alone.

In company with Christ,

who died and now lives,

may they rejoice in your kingdom,

where all our tears are wiped away.

Unite us together again in one family,

to sing your praise forever and ever.
