Vaginal Thrush - So you're pretty sure you have a vaginal yeast infection and out of your mind with worry because you don't know what to do, or with what to treat it. Being pretty sure is not good enough, you have to be certain. It's perfectly natural to worry after finding or seeing something odd happening in and around the vagina but you shouldn't fret to much. Nearly all vaginal yeast infections are "simple" to rid and treat with appropriate medication. They usually only become complicated to treat if left for a period of time that allows the condition to reach another stage.
Another reason that gives women cause for concern is after noticing change in their vaginal discharge such as colour or unpleasant smell and pain, red rash, or itchiness and burning sensation when weeing. Let us look at a few vaginal infections that maybe the possible cause for the changes you see and the discomfort you're having.
How about we make certain you are right to see if it is Vaginal Thrush the yeast infection you are pretty sure you think you have,
Vaginal thrush is also called yeast infection or candidiasis, which is an overgrowth of yeast that causes many nasty and annoying symptoms, such as itching and soreness around the vagina. It's a condition that nearly every woman at some time in her life will be affected by. Unfortunately some women have to put up with thrush longer than others because it keeps coming back. Recurrent thrush can affect a woman's sex life and self-image, but it can also be an indicator of a more serious issue.
Women already have yeast in their body, and if this goes mad if you like (out of control) it can cause thrush. The yeast expected to disrupt is usually Candida albicans, nonethless, the more resistant yeast, Candida glabrata can lead to thrush
Most likely place for the yeast to settle in the body is in the intestines, vagina, mouth and skin, where friendly' bacteria help keep yeast levels low. If this balance is upset and the yeast permitted to mass it can be damaging to the body.
The vagina is one spot most noted for the infection
Vaginal Thrush Symptoms
- Itching
- Burning
- Soreness,
- Swelling of the vagina
- Swelling of the vulva
- Yeasty-smelling discharge
Aside from the itching and burning being discomforting, swelling of the vagina or vulva can put you out of the game for a while. Thrush irritates the fragile tissue of the vagina making it sore and in some cases much painful because of swelling and redness. Someone with thrush will more than likely be apprehensive about peeing because it can be painful to urinate. And for some, sexual intercourse is out of the question purely for the same reason.
Vaginal discharge caused by thrush is generally white and thicker than a regular discharge; it may look similar to yoghurt-like and has a strong yeasty odour. Because women vary some may experience a watery or mild-smelling discharge...some losing more than others also.
Symptoms of Bacterial Vaginosis
Symptoms of bacterial vaginosis if they come, because they don't always do, are vaginal discharge and vaginal odor. Typical odor with BV is a type of fishy smell and looks thin and greyish white.
Symptoms of Gonorrhea
Once again not an infection to show symptoms in the early stage of the disease. Symptoms of gonorrhea are sometimes misconstrued as being something other than the STD. Burning or frequent urination, a yellowish vaginal discharge redness and swollen genitals, and a burning or itching of the vaginal area are likely symptoms to say you're infected.
Symptoms of Genital Warts
Genital warts don't always bring symptoms, but should they then we link itching, burning, and tenderness to them. They may result in localized irritation, depending upon their anatomic settlement. Women who have genital warts inside the vagina might see bleeding after having sex or an abnormal vaginal discharge. Not common but known, bleeding or urinary obstruction may happen if the wart involves the urethral entrance.
Symptoms of Chlamydia
Not all women with Chlamydia experience symptoms. Nonetheless infection of the uterine cervix (Cervicitis) is the most regular symptom along with vaginal discharge or abdominal pain. Infection of the urethra is often connected with chlamydial infection of the cervix. If the urethra is infected this is when you see more women treated for a urinary tract infection.
Thrush treatments
There is nothing complicated about treating vaginal thrush, in fact it's pretty straight forward, that's as long as the condition is pretty straight forward without other complications included. To treat a mild bout of thrush might include a short course (1 to 3 days) of an antifungal medicine which can be taken in two different ways orally or as an intravaginal treatment. Intravaginal treatments consist of creams or pessaries.
Be wary because some vaginal thrush treatments may contain imidazoles which are supposedly known to damage condoms and diaphragms. Also oral treatments for curing vaginal thrush can interfere with oral contraceptives preventing them from doing their job. If you want to be sure that nothing goes wrong for you then talk with your doctor.
If you already have another condition you're dealing with (pregnancy diabetes or a weak immune system) then this particular yeast infection will most likely be dealt with differently. Pregnant women won't be prescribed oral antifungal medicine to keep her and her baby safe during her pregnancy. It's most likely the preferred medication will be intravaginal treatment. The diabetic or person with a weak immune system may need a longer course of antifungal medicine.
Always talk to your doctor before trying out unfamiliar treatments or remedies advertised for curing vaginal thrush.
