Itchy Vagina - Would I be right in thinking that you are here because you have a problem that might include either an itchy vagina, genital red rash, vaginal pimples or maybe a vaginal odour that causes you embarrassment. At this point there's no need to panic because the symptoms stated, are usually duly caused by common infections which are treatable and curable. Certain vaginal infections depending on severity may take longer to cure if they were allowed to stick around untreated by the patient, before medical help was sought after.

If an infection is ignored it can turn real nasty if not seen to right away so it is in your best interest, and for the health of your vagina to get help if you experience problems. The vagina is a body organ of importance and serves many purposes which I believe I don't need to spell them out. If a woman is infected by a specific vaginal infection, and she permits it to prolong then it can easily do more damage in more ways than one. It is known for serious complications to happen to women while giving birth putting her unborn baby in danger if infection has travelled and the cause of another condition..

The vagina is an odourless organ of the body and a self cleaning one too. If a vaginal odour is present, then this can be caused by stale sweat or pee if pubic hair is not thoroughly washed and rinsed after using the loo. Nonetheless I expect this is not the vaginal smell you are looking to treat and want to know why it is there. If we take a look at certain vaginal infections and their causes, and their symptoms we may be able to tell from this, what infection is the problem?

A common vaginal yeast infection noted for itch and soreness is thrush; it also causes change in vaginal discharge. Thrush discharge is normally white thick with a yeasty smell and may appear to look like condensed milk. Every woman is different so it can also come watery with a slight smell. It's also known for discomfort causing women when they pee to suffer burning and stinging. The area of the vulva and vagina can swell too. If you have an itchy vagina and smelly yeast odour and your discharge shows as either white and thick, or watery, then it's quite possible you have the thrush infection.

Is the vaginal smell more offensive? Does it have a strong odour sort of like fish?  The vaginal discharge known for a distinct fishy odour is a condition called bacterial vaginosis. Once again another "common" vaginal infection that affects women in great numbers, so should you have this then it's not like you have been singled out and have an unknown disease. Bacterial Vaginosis is not life threatening and can be cured. Symptoms of bacterial vaginosis cannot always be relied upon purely because not every woman with BV will suffer them. Regular symptoms of BV are the fishy smell and a vaginal discharge that looks a greyish white in colour, and watery.

STDs

If you suspect an STD has been passed onto you then it's important to get it seen to as soon as possible. If a sexually transmitted disease is left without treatment then the consequences of delay can be most severe indeed. Would my vagina smell if I had Gonorrhea? It's not a symptom strongly pointed out with the disease unlike that of bacterial vaginosis and the fishy odor

Gonorrhea symptoms in women

If you have a problem with regular vaginal acne (pimples) and an itchy vaginal red rash then this will take nothing more than bathing the affected areas with warm water and thoroughly drying afterwards and allowing the area to have time to heal. The typical cause for vaginal rash if it isn't from sweaty genitals then it's possibly reasoned by wearing tight clothing. You find a lot of women come asking why their rash is not going, well until you slacken up down below then you will never know. How can something like this ever be expected to clear up when the most likely cause of it being there in the first place, is still in force? Loosen up.

To avoid infection then there's things you can do to help do this. No doubt what I am about to point out you may have already heard before, but if it means drumming it in to you then it's best I do to help you keep a healthy vagina without fear of infection.

You have to forget about wearing tight jeans and up the bum sexy thongs while you have an infection, and if you haven't one then be wary because tight garments around the genitals can certainly cause them. Some women may be more vulnerable than others to infection. It's best to wear cotton panties.

Women love to smell nice end of story, but it's not natural for the vagina to smell sweet. Men don't easily accept vaginas that smell of roses or lavender, and definitely not turned on by scent, so bear this in mind. Keep fragranced products for under the arms or behind the ears and leave down there alone.

Be careful what you wash your clothes in because particular products can irritate the vulva area, and watch out for what ingredients are contained in antiseptics and disinfectants.

Common sense says after using the toilet, to wipe from the vagina back towards the anus, but does common sense prevail - in most cases not. If you get faeces (Poo) in the vagina don't panic. Run a bath of warm water and do what you would normally do to clean the vagina.  You're not to poke and push tissue in and out of the nook and crannies. Rubbing with toilet tissue can cause vaginal soreness. There is more chance of any offending matter becoming loose and freeing itself with water.

Did you know when you treat your own vaginal infection you rid vaginal odour at the same time.
