So you want to know how to stop toothache. You know as well as I do, if a decayed tooth is causing the pain and the tooth can't be saved then it's a case for the dentist. If the pain is to go then the tooth has to go.The dentist will check your teeth and advise, and if he/she thinks with treatment that the tooth can be saved then they'll do everything necessary so you hold onto it, however if it's beyond repair the dentist will suggest extracting the tooth. As long as the problem tooth remains in the gum, it will always cause you pain.
Let's say you don't have a fear of dentists and simply just looking for relief for toothache because you can't get to the dentist or for whatever other reason that prevents you seeking dental treatment.
Toothache can be the result of a number of things and two to mention being most common is a cavity in the tooth or an abscess. Even food particles caught in between the teeth and sinus infection can cause pain. It's at times like this that you need the dentist to confirm the problem, but if you're adamant that a trip to the dentist is out then be careful.
Temporarily stop toothache. Before trying out unfamiliar dental treatments and solutions get advice from a dental expert.
Try rinsing the mouth with lukewarm water to loosen bits of food stuck between the teeth if this is the cause of the pain in the mouth. If this doesn't dislodge trapped foods then floss. Flossing is a safe way to remove food from the teeth. The gums will likely be sensitive and tender so take it slow.
For severe pain let the tooth soak in alcohol (Whiskey) for a few minutes. Then spit it out. The gum will numb thus less pain to endure.
Swill the mouth and gums with salt water. Into an eight ounce glass of water add one teaspoon of salt then gargle and swish it all around the mouth
Help reduce toothache pain with an ice cube. Massage it into the v shaped section between your fore-finger and thumb. Do this for a few minutes for pain relief. If you think the ice is helping then it's just as easy to suck on an ice cube as it is rubbing it into the gums.
Until you get with your dentist avoid constant chewing and biting. Usually if the tooth is left alone it can cure itself and return to normal.
Don't go out in the cold for fear of sparking off more pain. If cold air affects your tooth then keep the mouth closed. I know what you're thinking, how on earth can I keep my mouth shut when I have so much to say. Look if you want to rid the pain of toothache then you have no choice till you get dental treatment done.
If you take aspirin for the pain then swallow it and don't place it on the tooth to avoid aspirin burn.
To keep your teeth and gums healthy is not just about working with the mouth with a toothbrush flossing and mouthwash etc it goes much deeper than than that. Good nutrition is vitally important. What you pop in your mouth will have a great impact on the health of your teeth and gums. A healthy well balanced diet, not only helps strengthen the teeth and gums it will help prevent tooth decay and gum disease
If you want to get rid of a toothache or prevent it then you have to change a few things in your daily diet. You know as well as I do what's coming next, and you will be right. Sweet sugary foods have to go. They don't have to be gone altogether because I mean how do we stem that craving for sweet foods. Fruit is the best alternative. Your diet should consist strongly of raw vegetables and whole wheat breads.
Foods without fiber easily stick to the teeth. Damage happens when sticky substances mass and form on the teeth and eats away at the enamel. So it's essential to eat whole foods to help decrease plaque on the teeth and the bacteria in the mouth. Tooth decay is commonly influenced by what people eat.
To get to the root of the problem and successfully rid toothache it helps to know exactly the cause of the pain being there in the first place.
Mouth disorders that can cause tooth and gum pain
Symptoms of an abscess are a bad taste and smell in the mouth. The patient will find it is also sore to chew or bite. If your sure it is an abscess gargle with salt water and take Tylenol to relieve fever and pain caused through the abscess.
If you have a chipped tooth then the quicker you act betters the chance of saving the tooth. A broken tooth is quick to decay without treatment. It is likely after chipping a tooth to get pain, so make an appointment to see the dentist who may be able if the break is not to severe to save the tooth. If this is not possible at least the dental surgeon can get the original look of the tooth if further work is to be done.
If you have walked into a door or had a fall and knocked a tooth out then they'll probably be pain. Put the tooth in a glass of milk and get to a dentist straight away.
What would we do without salt? Once again using salt swill the mouth if you have a soft tissue injury or the lips, gums, tongue, or cheeks are bleeding. Salt water will help contain bleeding. You could place on the bloody area a damp tea bag or a wet piece of gauze to control the bleed until you get to a GP or dentist.
If you lose a filling then this can cause toothache.. For temporary pain relief put a piece of gauze across the hole to prevent cold air, food, and even saliva from getting at the sensitive nerve endings.
What to eat to keep teeth and gums strong and healthy and prevent bad breath
Select foods that fight bacteria, rid plaque and strengthens tooth enamel.
Celery - Chewing celery produces plenty of saliva, which neutralizes the bacteria Streptococcus mutans which is the chief cause of cavities. Eat celery or carrots daily.
Kiwis contain more vitamin C than any other fruit. Vitamin C is vital for strong teeth and gums.
Onions Okay there's the issue of smelly breath but this is easily remedied with mouthwash, parsley or peppermint chewing gum. Onions contain antibacterial sulfur compounds. Back in a 1997 research, it showed onions destroyed different types of bacteria, including S. mutans. Onions are more effective when eaten raw.
As with overall health water is much needed. An ample amount of water consumed daily will keep your gums hydrated. This stimulates saliva--your body's best defense against bacteria that causes plaque and cavities.
You can spend a lot of money you can ill afford trying to stop toothache on worthless products or gimmicks that don't work. When it comes down to teeth there is only one person that can save you money and further pain, need I spell it out.
