ISLAMABAD - Again on the news we hear of yet another terrifying shock for the people of Pakistan. Today, Friday, a bomb blast shook the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore, the second attack in the last 7 days and a sure sign that militants may be notching up on their assaults on the country after things had been peaceful for weeks

More blood splattered bodies of the casualties caught up in the bomb blast, as well as from the gunshots that followed, seen the injured being transported away by ambulance. The amount of casualties or deaths if any has not yet been confirmed while inspection of the damage and clearance of the rubble is underway.

The place of attack was RA Bazaar, a residential and commercial neighbourhood where army and security agencies are based and have facilities.

No group has come forward to hold their hand up and take responsibility for this merciless act. Nonetheless authorities believe the blame lies on the Pakistani Taliban and al-Qaida. The militants are supposedly responsible for a great number of attacks in Pakistan over past years, including a run of strikes that began in October and saw 600 innocent people die in several weeks in revenge for an army offensive against the insurgents along the Afghan border.

The latest assaults have been small and restricted to more isolated northwest regions near Afghanistan, but on Monday just gone, a suicide car bomber took himself out and a building in Lahore down where high-value suspects were questioned by authorities. This incident killed 13 people and this is without giving the total for the wounded that included women and children.

Give them their due The Pakistani Taliban were good enough to come forward with a smirk on their face and proudly announce they were accountable for the Monday car bomb attack. That smirk needs to be wiped off their face. Killing innocent people to get a message across is nothing more than cold blooded murder. Have these people never heard of peace talks instead of doing their talking with sticks of dynamite.

Not ending, the fear in Pakistan still looms overhead for everyone. On Wednesday, alleged militants armed with assault rifles and bombs created at home attacked the northwest Pakistan offices of World Vision, an American based Christian aid group. Six deaths occurred as a result of this attack.

All that has occurred in the last 7 days has left Pakistani officials no choice but to crackdown. They are expected to clamp down on Afghan Taliban and al-Qaida workers using Pakistan soil. Among the militants said to be under arrest is the Afghan Taliban's No. 2 commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.

The most common target for militant attacks in Pakistan is usually directed towards security forces.

During the attacks which have included bomb blasts, suicide bombers, roadside car bombings, and deaths caused by gun or rifle that began in October - coinciding with the army's ground offensive against the Pakistani Taliban in South Waziristan tribal region - Lahore has come under attack several times. When will the bloodshed ever end? Of course no set time can be put on this for us all to rejoice the end of war, however there is no set time for us to say a prayer for those who have died, or for those left behind to live in fear.
