Peter Graves is dead but his memory lives on. How can anyone forget a guy who gave so much to films? He did many television shows aside from films throughout his career spanning nearly 60 years. Who can forget his performance as a treacherous Nazi spy in Billy Wilder's 1953 prisoner-of-war drama Stalag 17? Many fans were left shocked, as this type casting for Graves was well out of character, nonetheless he gave a powerful perfomance that gave people unfamiliar with Graves, and his fans something to talk about, in his ability to change roles to what everyone was accustomed too.
Peter Graves was a very clever man when off set. He was often encouraged to go into politics by friends. Behind the costumes and all that stage make up Graves had all the qualities to run for office.
Graves's older brother James Arness was also in acting, best known for playing the role of Marshal Matt Dillon on TV's Gunsmoke.
Peter Graves name on his birth certificate was Peter Aurness; Peter took on his grandfather's last name to avoid confusion with his older brother, who had dropped the "u."
Peter Graves married his teen sweetheart Joan Endress in 1950 and had three daughters Kelly Jean, Claudia King and Amanda Lee and six grandchildren. Today there is much sadness surrounding the death of our great veteran actor Peter Graves who died yesterday on Mother's Day March 14th 2010.
