Paul McCartney, performance at the White House. Who would have thought the scouse lad from Liverpool born and raised not far from the River Mersey and Albert Dock would one day stand before the president of America, and under his own roof too - leave his mark. Paul McCartney one of the Fab Four, (The Beatles) although famous already, has become an even titchy bit more famous after his visit to the White House. McCartney himself said I've done a lot of things in my life, but never this," Last month he travelled to the White House where at the time a well planned out all-star concert was convened to befit the occasion, but as one would expect with something as big as this, news leaked out and the next thing you know everyone pays You Tube a visit.
Let the show begin, and so it did with a procession of stars old and young to pay homage to the huge back catalog that earned McCartney this honor.
I once had the pleasure of meeting Paul McCartney, when he was on the set of his film "It's Been a Hard Day's Night" he made with fellow band members the late John Lennon and George Harrison, and drummer Ringo Starr. Our meeting at the time I expect in comparison to this is long forgotten, I wonder if I had been standing in the White House alongside Obama would things be different. McCartney performed in the East Room of the White House for President Barack Obama and the first family, who sat in front of the row.
Paul McCartney in an interview about the whole experience
Why is this concert "Biggie" as you call it?
I am a huge follower of President Barack Obama. He came into this job with a lot of difficulties. I have always admired the man and wanted to meet with him and his wife. I have only ever seen pictures of the White House but never been inside, so that was cool. And the idea of playing in the White House was very interesting. We were all very excited from me, to the lowliest member of the crew.
You joked that you were worried the president might hit you after you sang "Michelle."
It was such a lovely, friendly and homely atmosphere. It was almost like a family circle. I didn't at any time feel on edge or feel the need to bite my lip and keep stum. I felt free to say whatever I wanted. We found his whole family very relaxing to be with, and I think he found us, I hope, in the same way. So it was good at this level. And he did not punch me, thank God.
Thoughts on playing "Ebony and Ivory" for the first black president
"Ebony and Ivory" with Stevie, because we have never done it live together, so this night the song was more special than ever. To sing live together for the first time in front of the first black president made the song and its meaning sort of an appropriate song for the event. To sing with Stevie before President Obama was very emotional. The lyrics to the song suddenly seemed more important for me in this situation.
Sir James Paul McCartney, MBE (born 18 June 1942), is an English singer-songwriter, poet, composer, multi-instrumentalist, entrepreneur, record and film producer, painter, and animal rights and peace activist.
After leaving The Beatles, McCartney launched a successful solo career and formed the band Wings with his first wife, Linda Eastman, and singer-songwriter Denny Laine. Linda died at the age of 56 in 1998 from cancer. Paul had since re-married in 2002 and now divorced from his second wife Heather Mills
McCartney is listed in Guinness World Records as the most successful musician and composer in popular music history, with 60 gold discs and sales of 100 million singles. McCartney is an advocate for animal rights, vegetarianism, and music education; he is active in campaigns against landmines, seal hunting, and Third World debt.
Paul McCartney was born in Walton Hospital in Liverpool, England He has one brother, Michael, born 7 January 1944. He too was in the trio called "The Scaffold".
He is a keen football fan, supporting both Everton and LIVERPOOL football clubs. If Paul is a true supporter of the sport then the colour "RED" will have been brought up in conversation during his time in the "White" House. Will Steven Gerrad be the next Ivory man to visit the home of the Ebony President? I can live in hope can't I.
