Who is Vera Wang? If you've never heard of the woman then as of today you might just get sick of hearing her name. Vera Wang was chosen by Chelsea Clinton to design her wedding dress. Don't tell me you don't know who Chelsea Clinton is, Chelsea is the only daughter of former president of the US Bill Clinton.

It was to be a fairytale wedding for Chelsea and her long-term boyfriend Marc so that meant a fairytale wedding gown was in order to set scene, and who better to deliver the goods "Vera Wang".

On Saturday evening Chelsea Clinton had her dream come true when she walked down the aisle in an ivory strapless Vera Wang silk gown that extended to the floor. The custom-made dress also had a bejeweled and shimmering waistband.

Wang, a close friend of the Clinton clan, was seen earlier on Saturday by journalists after she walked out of a local restaurant in the village. She was among the 400-plus guests at the wedding in Rhinebeck, N.Y. Burberry Creative Director Christopher Bailey, another friend of the family, designed the groom's tuxedo and ex-President Bill Clinton's tie. The bride's mother, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, selected a wine-colored gown designed by her good friend Oscar de la Renta.

Since Chelsea Clinton confirmed her engagement to investment banker Mezvinsky a year ago, the public has been speculating about her choice of wedding gown. That speculation ended yesterday when Chelsea looked stunning in her wedding gown and Vera Wang revealed as the designer

Over two decades ago (1990) was when Wang first launched her line of bridal dresses at her flagship salon at the Carlyle Hotel in New York City, which is still open today. Designing luxurious gowns from classical to modern, Vera Wang has become a synonym for star-studded wedding.

She was born Vera Ellen Wang and raised as a child in New York. Wang is of Chinese descent. Her mom and dad were both born in Shanghai. Her parents upped sticks in the 1940s and headed for a new life in the United States. Her mom worked as a translator for the United Nations, while dad ran his own medicine business. Vera Wang has a younger brother, Kenneth.

Wang was never always a designer, while attending school she was trained as a figure skater with pairs partner James Stuart, and competed at the 1968 Figure Skating Championships. After failing to qualify for a place in the US Olympics her life was to change. Vera Wang joined the fashion world and never looked back, and Chelsea Clinton's wedding has just proven that.

I like reading stories about where people who've succeeded came from. I doubt she's regretting her change of career!
