Comic Relief Money Making Ideas - Have you decided this year if you ‘ve never done any other year to do your bit for Comic Relief. Red Nose Day falls on March 18th 2011 where thousands of people in the UK get involved, or participate, in fund raising events to donate to this worthy cause. Unfortunately, some people don’t have a clue how to organize a group event, or solo one, so they tend to sit back and do nothing This is sad because the more money raised lessens the amount of people who starve.
What is Comic Relief? It is a charity founded in the United Kingdom in 1985 by the comedy scriptwriter Richard Curtis and Alexander Mendis in response to famine in Ethiopia. Comic Relief was first launched live on Noel Edmond’s Late Breakfast Show on BBC 1 Christmas Day 1985 from a refugee camp in Sudan. Since the charity’s beginning in the 1980s, Comic Relief has raised over £650 million for those less fortunate than ourselves. Red Nose Day is an association, not only in the United Kingdom, but also in several other countries around the globe.
Red Nose Fundraising at Work
Whether you work in a factory, office, or supermarket, it won’t matter when it comes to raising cash, and, it will make it a lot easier to get people on board in regards to your event if it’s group thing. Don’t be afraid to ask work colleagues for help in what you propose to do. People love having fun, and especially more so in working hours where they get chance to skive. If the gaffer agrees to whatever it is you have in mind to make money for the charity, then get cracking now to get things underway.
For starters you could put the gaffer or supervisor up for auction to raise cash, or you could ask them to get their wallet out and throw in some cash on behalf of the company. A simpler way to raise money for Comic Relief which is less intrusive on work colleagues is to sell Red Nose Day bits and bobs in the working environment. This is a better option to get people to part with their cash as people will often buy items for charity if they're presented to them in an easily accessible way. Never bully anyone into buying.
Why not organize a morning coffee event selling home made baking and healthy salad sandwiches. Good food for around this time and to serve with tea or coffee is pancakes and hot cross buns. Alternatively, if you prefer another location other than the place you work to raise funds, fine, have friends come to a fundraising disco dance or trivia evening held at you’re house.
The most obvious aspect of Red Nose Day is the color red, as is pink with breast cancer. Go on this as much as possible in your money making activities.
1. Dressing up in red clothes for the day will help double donations.
2. Dye your hair red, or paint your face red.
Anything that draws attention will have your collection box fill up fast. Remember the cause during your stunts to boost stamina and determination to raise as much money as you can.
3. What you see a lot of on this day is Red Nose Day magnets that you stick on your car, so why not buy a red nose and put it on your car aerial to show your support.
There are various ways to earn cash for Comic Relief, but doing something you’re good at, or passionate about makes the quest even more enjoyable. Kids like having fun too so get them involved.
4. Children can raise money on Red Nose Day by doing competitions such like having a football match and selling tickets for the event for parents to come and cheer them on, or a tug of war, or teaming up to play man-hunt.
5. Let kids loose in the kitchen under supervision to bake cookies to sell. Decorate with glazed cherries or strawberries or red types of syrups.
6. Hold a garage or car boot sale with all proceeds going to Comic Relief. Doing this you kill two birds with one stone, i.e. you put food in a hungry child’s belly while de-cluttering the house of old unwanted items.
7. If you have enough space in your back garden hold a mini fete with a distinct red theme - selling bric and brac - play challenge games, or, selling products like home made jams and chutney, cakes and biscuits, will bring in money. If you’re creative make up some flower displays to sell, or, raffle off a food hamper, or a basket filled with assorted toiletries (scent – talc – deodorant – soap - etc.)
8. Bag unwanted clothes, shoes, handbags etc and deliver to a charity shop so they can be forwarded on to those in need in foreign countries.
9. Sweets sell, so sell them. A typical fundraising idea and to get the Red Nose Day feel - swap all the sweets in a jar to red so people can pay to guess the amount of sweets inside, and the winner gets to take the candy filled jar home.
10. Do you know anyone that can play a musical instrument? Ask this person or persons if they’d like to help raise money for a worthy cause and take part in a special 24 hour 'whatever-a-thon', and have friends sponsor them for their effort.
11. Include a swimming event of some sort for kids and adults. Kids love water so take advantage. Charge adults a fee to exercise in the pool. For this you get cash for your charity, and the adults get a feeling of feeling fitter than what they did when they first got in.
12. Do you know someone with a good voice? Have this person visit a recording studio and get CDs done to sell. Speak with the studio manager who may contribute to the cause by allowing the time in the studio free of charge.
13. Children can with an adult go to neighbors and ask to clean their car for a fee, or walk their dog for a pound, but if it bites, charge two.
14. They say where there’s muck there is money, so offer to clean friend’s dustbins. Be sure to have disinfectant easy to hand, not only for the bin but to clean you’re hands afterwards. It’s a good idea to wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth.
15. Offer to rid litter/leaves from people’s gardens.
16. Can you paint? Whether it is on canvass or skin, offer this service for a fee. Kids love their faces painted, so you’re onto a winner here to collect a lot of money for your Comic Relief charity if this activity is one you choose to do.
The list for money making ideas is endless, and you have just over a fortnight (March 18th 2011) to get your thinking cap on and start arranging your fundraising event now for Red Nose Day. The more you prepare and promote the event, the more cash you will make for Comic Relief!
Comic Relief is a fun day so make sure you smile, because, the money you raised will certainly put a smile on the faces of those that the cause was all about.
FREE jokes to tell friends this day.
