Are you at this minute suffering from one or more of the discomforts a dry vagina can cause and don’t know what to do, or why it’s in the state that it is? There’s likely a simple explanation for vaginal dryness that more times than not is effectively treated in the home using a simple remedy…it’s as simple as that!
Of course then there’s the not so simple, which is when a doctor is needed to delve deeper into the problem.
Is having a dry vagina as bad as women make out? Surely it’s not something that a smidgen of Vaseline can’t put right – right…wrong! If a doctor is involved then that tells you it can get pretty serious. If you’re one of these people who question this and never experienced vaginal dryness, then hey what gives you the right to give rise for debate?
Vaginal dryness is not a life threatening condition so no reason for concern, but nonetheless because pain is a primary issue in many cases, then it is not good and women want a cure.
It’s a treatable condition, and with the right medication and advice you should be fit and well in no time. If you’re embarrassed to speak to you’re doctor, and the dry vagina remains after home treatments, then it’s never going away. If anyone has reason to blush it’s the GP. Believe me, these people see some sights throughout their working day, and their cheeks don’t redden, so why should yours?
How to treat a dry vagina, its causes, symptoms and more: This is a common condition in women around the time of the menopause.
Pain is imminent in sexual intercourse due to dryness, making it a major worry for both man and woman. The vagina creates a clear, usually odorless lubricant that allows the penis to enter the vagina painlessly. The amount of lubricant created by the female is influenced by a number of varied reasons, so it’ll differ for each woman. Not enough lubricant at the time of penetration can cause severe discomfort for the woman, as this goes for her partner too.
Most women that suffer dryness complain of a burning sensation when peeing. Another symptom is vaginal itch. Although advised not to scratch, women do so to get relief causing further damage to the vagina. This is easier said than done I know, however, if it's under doctors orders then best do as you're told.
Causes for vaginal dryness may include:
- Sexual intercourse
- Diaphragms
- Certain medication (Antidepressants)
- Antibiotics
- Chemotherapy
- Radiation
- Allergens
- Douches
- Tampons
- Rubber sheaths
What causes estrogen levels to drop?
• Menopause (Change of life)
• Hysterectomy
• Period changes
• Pregnancy
• Giving Birth
• Hormonal contraceptives
• Endometriosis
• Anxiety, tiredness
• Exertion
• Infertility treatments
1. Ever heard of Kegel exercises but thought no more of it? Its worth giving these a try. Kegel is an affective exercise that helps strengthen vaginal tissue because it increases circulation to the pelvic region.
2. There are products you may not be aware of that can increase dryness. Vaginal tissue is delicate and certain soaps, fragranced products, feminine sprays etc can make the area more troublesome, which in return will make you more miserable. Choose products by label. If the product contains harsh ingredients don’t make a purchase.
3. Because the word dryness is used, it sidetracks the woman into believing moistening the dry spot will solve the problem. While lubricants are a good accessory, and especially more so to make sex more uncomfortable, consider using a moisturizing cream. Certain ones better the health of vaginal tissue. Ingredients, such as phytoestrogens are known for refilling weakening estrogen levels. Moisturizers assist in making vaginal and surrounding tissue more pliable and stronger. Ask the pharmacist about this.
4. Flaxseeds are high phytoestrogens, so used a lot to control particular symptoms in other conditions aside from vaginal dryness. Flax helps with hot flushes, and breast soreness. Flax high omega-3 fatty acids are good for tackling heart disease, arthritis, and “balancing hormones,” which in return lessens vaginal dryness. Flax seed oil makes a fabulous lubricant and massage oil for the vagina.
5. Vitamins: Great all round option to be considered. B-vitamins and vitamin E is known for their healing qualities for treating vaginal dryness. Vitamin A can save stretchiness and tend to the mucous membranes. Before taking vitamins speak with you’re GP.
6. When vaginal tissue is less stretchy, injury can happen easily, and put you more at risk of catching a sexually transmitted disease. Make sure a condom is used to avoid the nasty consequences if safe sex is not practiced.
7. Whether a dry vagina is the problem or not, drink plenty of water. You’ll be surprised at the difference in you’re body after flushing it out. 8 - 10 glasses of water a day will better improve you’re system.
8. Some swear by the sitz bath with added comfrey: Comfrey ointment can also be applied to vaginal area.
9. Although a suggested remedy (Lycopodium and Natrum Mur solutions,) never use without speaking with the doctor first. There’s a wide range of treatments if other mucous membranes are dry, - again talk to the doctor. Remedies are precise to symptoms suffered. To make diagnosis an easier process for the medic jot down all discomforts, i.e. whether it burns when you wee, if sex hurts, signs of hot mouth or dry tongue, in fact anything that gives reason for concern.
10. Don't hold information back if you want an exact prognosis. Doing this will hamper the doctor’s judgment.
Did you know when you treat your own vaginal infection you rid vaginal odour at the same time.
